HELL YEAH!!

Look at what we did TOGETHER! Comic-con has quietly changed their language and will NOT allow GenAi imagery in their art show!

And this happened because you all wrote letters, and shared your concerns! Speaking up works EVERY time!

So congrats friends! We did this together!!!
🙌🙌💖💖💖
San Diego Comic-Con will no longer allow AI 'art' to be displayed at their event

"Material created by AI either partially or wholly, is not allowed in the art show"

This follows backlash from artists after SDCC initially indicated AI-generated work would be permitted

Apparently, I can kick hard enough to hit someone over 2,000 miles away! I'm AMAZING!
Weird childhood memory:

One time I got absolutely nailed in the head playing dodgeball. It was so hard that my glasses flung halfway across the gym and I fell in a super dramatic fashion. The teachers actually paused the game for a moment to make sure I was okay. (I was.)

I bet it was Kevin.
Weird childhood memory:

When we played kickball in elementary school, I had this weird, aim-bot-like ability where any person on the field I looked at when kicking, the ball would just nail them straight in the head. Like, almost every single time. Bullseye.

By now, you've probably seen the Hiveworks news that came out earlier this week.

We'd like to show our support and solidarity to those affected by this egregious breach of trust and professionalism.

If you are an affected comic creator, we'd love to hear how we can help. You deserve better.
The Hiveworks Artist Guild has released a public statement alleging years of labor abuses, financial mismanagement, and misconduct at Hiveworks at the hands of Xellette “Xel” Velamist and Isabelle “Isa” Melançon. Read their full statement at:

RE: Hiveworks stuff, it's become really clear is how much of the toxicity of the leadership came from seeing fellow artists as competition and threats rather than comrades who lift each other up.

The world is big enough for all of us. I hope we can work together and fight our real enemy (fascists)

one more thing: this is not a "call-out post" or a harassment campaign aimed at those named. it's a statement of fact and warning of behaviour. do not seek them out and harass them. i would prefer you did not seek them out, period
along with this letter and its warnings please consider this additional takeaway: if something feels off, if you feel disrespected or stonewalled or exploited--talk to your peers about it. it's very likely you aren't alone. and thank you for reading.

I really do want to highlight that the same person who said and did these things to me and my friends in Hiveworks makes one of the softest, cutest webcomics out there.

That fact has made me mad, sad, and confused for a long time.

It's so so important to diversify how you find stories, no matter if it's through apps or collectives or what have you. Find comics that you want to follow no matter where they publish. Provide your direct support to the creators your care about where you can, I can promise it's worth your time.

Things I learned from this:
-don't put your entire trust/faith into one person or one entity
-stay vigilant when friendships occur in business related things
-community, in this case the Guild, is more important than you know and more precious than you think
-transparency, transparency, transparency
Go Get a Roomie! was one of the very first webcomic to work with the Hiveworks. In fact, it was in part thanks to GGaR's success that Hiveworks was able to launch as it did! And it was thanks to Hiveworks' help that I could live off ad revenues.
So it was a win-win? Yes and no. 🧵

Never trust an 'employer' who discourages you from talking to your 'co-workers' even if they are not telling you that explicitly. It is valuable to speak to the people around you about your working conditions, especially if your working conditions are constantly throwing up red flags.

Entire words are missing, sporadically, and I keep writing "communty" instead of "community".

Hey. You know those cute little crow time comics everyone loves so much? That's Isa. That's who everyone is talking about. I think that needed to be made clear since I noticed some confusion and a lot are actually rather unaware of this fact because she's great at separating herself from this.
