Something I will say about the whole "people are more illiterate" now issue is that I think the devaluing and erasure of media analysis and critique as an art form is part of the problem.
Yeah, some people can't read but even more people just don't think *thinking* about what they read matters.

One thing I’ve learned that is that arguments in favor of something that does measurable harm to your community — using genAI, skipping vaccines, not wearing masks — are generally not reasoned or based in science or even deeply held beliefs. The actor simply does not want to *have to do something.*

Kind of an awkward PSA because I've had some artist mutuals recommend these sites/tools, but
"ai image detection" tools are snake oil, and I feel like nobody bothered to scrutinize them.
So I opened photoshop cs6, drew a smiley face, and uploaded it to the "accurate" detector:

I think it's important for people to learn what species they have locally so they can be excited about them and feel some responsibility for their well-being. Since we as a species have largely taken over the planet, it seems like the right thing to do: make sure other species can still live here.🐡🐍
