The Oregonian editorial board is a mouthpiece for Portland’s wealthiest and most powerful institutional and political actors.

Their goal since 2020 has been to weaponize and exaggerate deteriorating social conditions as a way to advance a right wing political project.

They are running from it now.
The Oregonian editorial board linked this post in their Trump editorial today because they know it’s true and that they are partially responsible for promoting the idea that Portland is a crime ridden hellscape.

They want to pretend it never happened when confronted with their own complicity.
I don’t want to hear anymore “Portland is dying” narrative or vague complaints about “ANTIFA” as the clarion call for action in the city. All of that led to Trump targeting us. Groups like People for Portland, associated right-wing media ecosystem, and political opportunists own this.

The Governor says the tax base is fleeing the city because they don't like chipping in for kids to go to preschool- but the numbers tell a different story: the percentage of high incomes in Portland has been increasing steadily over the last decade. Read: portlanddsa.org/defend-presc...

PROTECT UNIVERSAL PRESCHOOL!!!
I'll have more to say tomorrow, but I'll note that we observe an increasing share of higher income earners in the county - a class who is often referred to as our tax base, and who is apparently fleeing due to this tax.

Congratulations to the City of Portland Professional Workers (CPPW) for achieving their first contract (3 years after their formation & 18 months after they first came to the table in good faith)!

I am grateful I had the opportunity to cast the first vote in favor of Council ratification.

City council always has some absurdity but the volume of discussion around trees and tree based violence is admittedly higher than I anticipated.

If the Oregonian is serious about helping working class families we have some thoughts 😅

RENT FREEZE
FREE EDUCATION
HEALTHCARE FOR ALL
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
PARKS & COMMUNITY SPACE
EXPAND UNIVERSAL PRESCHOOL
KICK ICE OUT OF PORTLAND AND CUT THE POLICE BUDGET TO PAY FOR THESE REAL SOLUTIONS
As a 28 year old city councilor this feels so pointed 😂

Maybe John can check out the @portlanddsa.bsky.social family agenda, heard they’re fighting for things to make the lives of families (found or otherwise) better in our city 💕✨

It is WILD to watch a supposedly public agency spread disinformation to get a whole community worked up and protect their own bottom line.

Prosper Portland is sitting on a $50m slush fund that they did not earn and want Portland to cut parks maintenance and permitting staff.

Wild.

Healthcare workers are on strike against Providence. Stony a 6 year nurse at Prov says it's about respect. Prov needs to treat people right and retain people. Cameron a 1 year nurse at Prov says he's tired of management gaslighting about staffing issues.
