February takes its name from februa, a Roman festival of purification held in readiness for spring and new beginnings. The month’s birthstone is amethyst, so here is a small gathering of amethyst-hued February flowers, welcome heralds of the turning year & the lengthening light.

Snowdrops are also known as ‘Candlemas Bells’, as they bloom around #Candlemas. This Christian celebration of light echoes the older pagan festival of #Imbolc, and is observed on 2nd February to mark the ritual purification of Mary after the birth of Jesus.

Black History Month is a time to recognize the lived, shared experience of all Black folks who have fundamentally shaped, challenged, and ultimately strengthened America. It’s about taking an unvarnished look at the past so that we can create a better future.

In early Edo times a superstition emerged that dreaming of the following was particularly auspicious:
*Ichi-Fuji (一富士 Mt. Fuji)
*Ni-taka (二鷹 a Hawk)
*San-nasubi (三茄子 an Eggplant)

Although there are theories, it's unclear why these objects were placed together on a list.
