Many self-described Marxists today espouse ideas that Marx would find ridiculous. In particular is the idea that "workers create all value," and that capitalistic profit is theft of this value which rightly belongs to the workers. Marx not only never said this, he specifically rejected it.

Nope, OP is correct. Some states had laws prohibiting certain classes of people from living there (e.g. black people were not allowed to live in Oregon) but no state had anything resembling the modern federal immigration system with an application process and numerical limits.
