Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

The killing of Alex Pretti and the grotesque lying was an overreach by the administration. They've paid a price and had to pull back a bit. But it's when there's some disarray that the democratic opposition needs to intensify the offensive, and turn a marginal tactical success into a major victory.

Wow! This read-along of the NYT moment-by-moment leading to the murder of Alex Pretti should shake everyone awake. He was a Good Samaritan.

Agents fired at least ten shots in roughly five seconds. DHS and Pam Bondi claim Pretti approached them armed and intent on a “massacre.”

Here's a regular white guy (literally "Chad") not a protester. because, "It seemed pointless, or just a way for people to expiate their sense of guilt." Chad witnessed something shattering. And, that all changed in a moment.

Excellent article!

Steph Curry on watching the protests from his hotel window: "In negative 10-degree weather. It was beautiful to see that turnout. That speaks to how important people felt to have their voice heard. In those elements and whatever streets outside our hotel, they were out, and it was amazing to watch."

Looks like the guy who murdered him had a clear view of his empty holster.
The Washington Post published a clear video of federal agents removing Alex Pretti's handgun moments before he was fatally shot. There's nothing in the video to suggest Pretti even reached for his weapon.

I can't put into words the feeling of watching our government, a hive of evil antisocial filth, the absolute worst humanity has to offer, colliding with the best. Ordinary people trying to help each other, risking everything to stand up for what's plainly, unambiguously fair and right. It's unreal

Whistleblowers just shared a memo showing DHS instructing ICE to force their way into peoples' houses without a proper warrant. Why is this not on all the networks right now? This is a criminal conspiracy to violate rights under color of law.

I know it’s hard to have optimism right now, but if there’s one thing that is genuinely giving me hope it is seeing communities — hell, neighborhoods, even portions of cities — stand up in unison against tyranny in a way that is active, capable, savvy. It’s really powerful.

Research shows that more diverse juries are less quick to convict, and that they deliberate longer and more carefully.

A landmark reform by Governor Phil Murphy on Sunday will make the jury pool in New Jersey a lot more representative of the state.
In a Final Act, New Jersey Governor Opens Jury Service to Thousands with Convictions
New Jersey has been one of the harshest states in banning people with records from juries. Murphy’s order restores eligibility to over 300,000, but stops short of permanent change.

At this point, I really don’t think there’s a question about whether or not ICE is a terrorizing and destructive force.
They are.
It’s just some people like inflicting destruction and terror, and some people don’t.
