40+ yo, they/them. too many ideas, too little time, too much stress. Also psiten on Dreamwidth! Ask to connect on discord. Writing fic since I was about 5, probably won't stop. See my AO3 (still psiten) for an idea of my fandoms, but there are always more.

SEATTLE!!!

We’ve now taken the lead by 91 votes! 🤯 This thing is certainly not over! Over 1,000 ballots have been challenged, so if you haven’t tracked your ballot yet get on it! Our trusty volunteers have been working hard to "cure" ballots so they count! We're so close!

The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

After yesterday’s surrender, we’re launching the largest Democratic primary program that we’ve ever run.

We will not back any Senate primary candidate unless they call for Schumer to step down as Minority Leader.

If you’re as pissed as we are, join this campaign to rebuild the Democratic Party. 👇
Democratic leaders have failed us again. It's time to get new leaders.
After yet another capitulation by Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats, it's clear we need new leadership capable of mounting a serious opposition to Trump's authoritarian regime. We're launching our la...

I know there are columns to write, news shows to fill and election consultants who need
to justify hourly billing rates. But as someone who attended the scavenger hunt, canvassed on election day and lived in NYC since 2016, affordability is a huge issue and it was nice to feel joy in politics again

So. We don't have to unpack all of this, and we probably can't, but let's examine a couple points from the PoV of a classicist (different from a classist). First, as someone rightfully points out in the replies, that picture is the Odyssey, which is part of why I struggled to find the edition.

Seattle's Mamdani is winning by an absurdly small margin over our incumbent mayor, who once pulled a gun on a pregnant woman in a parking lot.

I’ve said this before but I couldn’t get insurance when I was pregnant due to my pre existing condition…pregnancy.
For anyone too young to remember what it was like before ACA…

IT WAS A FUCKING NIGHTMARE.
One of the most important provisions of the ACA was eliminating pre-existing conditions exclusions from insurance plans.

Folks need to be reminded that if the ACA goes away, so does that provision.

Who knows when ICE comes to town?
When a group of men were taken from a Syracuse city street, it took nearly two weeks to know who’d grabbed them.

This dude popped up in my mentions yesterday to insist that there were 50 million undocumented immigrants in the country, of which 25 million had entered under Biden, and you just have to realize that these people just make things up and then demand we change the world to accommodate their fictions.

2 years ago i was working a cash register at a store with a deli counter and i watched as someone's EBT card declined because their sandwich was toasted and that was a real "what the fuck is this system" moment
Most people don’t know that with SNAP you are banned from buying “foods that are hot at the point of sale”. So even if you have SNAP (which people don’t now) you can’t get cooked food. Which means you need to also actually have the resources to PREPARE a “healthy” meal.
Thinking about the social stigma against eating fast food in a country where poor people are being starved by the govt, the cost of groceries and fresh vegetables are astronomical, and a cheeseburger at McDonald’s costs $3.50.

“Clean” and “healthy” eating rhetoric is racist, ableist, and classist.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.
