New album available. It's a grimy, expressionist ode to a place I used to live as a kid. Naïve new wave-ish instrumentals and vibey nonsense, for those tuned to such wavelengths. proximapsychoacoustics.bandcamp.com/album/whynott

Lot of great stuff on here. I second the recommendations for Provincial Park, by @buildingsfoodmusic.bsky.social and Public Works and Utilities by @warringtonruncorn.com

"Fairytale of New York" has never been popular in Canada at all (the vast majority of the handful of people I've polled have never heard of it). I only first heard it a couple years ago, and only by actively looking for it.

It's hard to remember that there were two whole seasons of Stranger Things without Maya Hawke. If Robin dies before the season is over, I'll probably stop watching immediately.

Watching Bowie interviews, he seemed to always promote a new album at the expense of the previous album. I think part of it was just promotion-talk, or maybe it was just his excitement about the new stuff; when he didn't talk like this, you could tell he thought the new stuff sucked ("Tonight").

"Whynott" is the new album coming out 14 Oct. It's about a place where I grew up. You can pre-order, if that's your thing; you can also hear a couple of the songs already. proximapsychoacoustics.bandcamp.com/album/whynott

Visiting family in Nova Scotia. Kind of a bummer with all the wildfires (like everywhere right now), not allowed in the woods at all ($25000 fine; they're not messing around).

However, new album's done, which is always a very nice feeling.

A (mostly) all-Canadian edition of the AM on @cjsw.bsky.social this week. One or two songs are a stretch, I’ll admit, but it’s not officially Canada Day yet, so maybe just let it slide.

Believing that America can or must be good does not require one to believe that America is or was good or that Americans are more important than anyone else in the world. I don't know who it serves to insist otherwise.
The problem I'm seeing with leftists is they want others to hate America as much as they do but I'm sorry that's not going to happen and also that's no way to improve politics. We need people to love this country and want to make it better. This era has actually made me more patriotic.

Trump is the natural conclusion of America’s founding and, like, the crowd full of moms with “Follow the Constitution!” signs is obviously ready for him to go

For over 25 years, upon completing a project I've diligently backed up all the individual track files for hypothetical future remixing or some such. I've never once opened any of those files again. I assume that's a common thing?
