"This is where #ProportionalRepresentation comes in. Instead of asking only, 'Which single dessert wins?' it asks a different question: if we are going to share this table, how many different desserts should be on it, and how do we decide which ones?"

It's great to see more and more people recognizing that #ProportionalRepresentation is the best fix for gerrymandering.

#ProportionalRepresentation gives voters more freedom to choose.
Proportional-representation-based systems permit voters to express their own preferences (rather than strategically managing a party landscape) much more, whether or not there's outright collapse to two parties or just weird first-past-the-post strategic voting to navigate. /fin

Exactly. That's what we're pushing California to do.

It's not really experimental. *Most* democracies use #ProportionalRepresentation. It's the US that's unusual.
Congress could mandate that states use proportional representation, with parties getting a number of seats proportional to their share of the vote. Advocates are already pushing for some states to experiment with this reform.

#ProportionalRepresentation is the way to end gerrymandering.
Very few Americans understand how globally anomalous our gerrymandered, single-member representation scheme really is.

There is a better way. youtu.be/xN5V0au9Xms?...

#ProportionalRepresentation can end this two-party doom loop of spiraling polarization and political violence.

That's the power of multi-member districts. They can create a more collaborative multi-party system where every party has incentives and the means to collaborate with others.
Striking graph in @ronbrownstein.bsky.social column www.bloomberg.com/opinion/feat... - causes are complex but multi-member districts are a great way to address this issue as well as the zero-sum politics it helps foster

Yes, getting representatives to act in our behalf requires real representation. #ProportionalRepresentation.
That would require an election system that actually gives representation to ALL of the votes — for ALL of the parties — equal representation.

The current system negates voters who choose an alternative party to the two establishment ones, suffocating change.

#ProportionalRepresentation is *the* fix for gerrymandering.
Increasing the House would be good for other reasons but do very little about gerrymandering. State legislatures with much smaller districts are still badly gerrymandered.

Proportional representation would make gerrymandering impossible, or Congress could impose strict limits on House redistricting
435 isn’t a magic constitutional number. Congress can and should enlarge the size of the House. But it won’t.

If you genuinely want multiparty democracy of the sort seen in Europe, you’re going to have to have third parties building power bases at the local level and supporting major electoral reform, above all proportional representation.

When governments flip direction every cycle, long term projects stall and public trust sinks.

This is what first-past-the-post produces by design.

Proportional representation creates stable majorities that support consistent long term policy.

Real talk: When was the last time your vote actually mattered in a California legislative race? Most districts are so safe that the primary decides everything.

#ProportionalRepresentation would make every vote count in every district. That's not radical—it's just fair.
