Coastal communities have a lot of challenges and opportunities in common. So working together enables us to achieve more and succeed. I am calling for a “Coastal Challenge” to break down the barriers to opportunities for our young people.

Last nights interim published figures of CLP nominations for Deputy Leader are very encouraging for Lucy Powell. With 221 to 140, that’s 61%.
Final nominations will be known tomorrow but this shows clear support from members from the length and breadth of the country.

Today is a truly historic moment fulfilling a long held commitment of the Labour Party to recognise Palestine in order to progress peace on the Middle East. Now we need a ceasefire, the release of the hostages, an end to the bombardment and invasion and an agreement to start talking.

I am delighted to have nominated my good friend and colleague Lucy Powell as Deputy Leader of the Labour Party. I know she will use her skill and experience to be a bridge to link the membership and the leadership for progressive change. Unity and hope.
