The #solarstorm from the X5 flare on Tue Nov 11 has an initial speed of 1800 km/s. We model it to arrive at Earth on Wed Nov 12 18:24 CET ± 6 hours (ELEvo method). The night from Wednesday to Thursday now looks better in terms of #aurora, and if the storm is strong maybe GNSS errors are possible.

The SOHO LASCO instrument is drowned in solar energetic particles due to the X5 flare earlier today Nov 11. A bit west of the disk center the particles are magnetically well connected to Earth. A massive #solarstorm was produced which we will model once initial conditions are available.

Here is the X5.1 flare in straight EUV light. We are looking at the 193 Å "gold" filter here. The flare is the bright flash, and immediately, you can see a giant blast wave racing through the Sun's corona, lifting tons of plasma into space as an Earth-directed CME.

We just got an X5 flare from the same active region that launched the 2 #solarstorms earlier this week, at around 20 degrees north and west of disk center. We will again need to see whether a storm was launched with coronagraphs and then evaluate its potential arrival at Earth in the upcoming days.

If President Connolly brings cats into the Áras, I'm going to be demanding a full re-do of the presidential election.
A decent argument against the 7 year Irish Presidential terms is that two terms is enough time for people to become emotionally attached to the President's pets and be devastated nationally when they pass away.

He was given a guard of honour by members of the Sanctuary Runners, a charity of which he is patron.
The President’s term of office ends at midnight.

Imagine an EU-wide government shut down in its 6th week leading to serious disruption of air traffic. We would not hear the end of it in Anglophone media.

HEADS UP! We just had an X1.7 flare from AR 4274 which is directly facing Earth! There is a complex, hull halo CME on the way with a clear northward propagation bias. Models will be important to see how much of this is actually coming at us. I’ll post later with more updates.
