If a child, their parents, and their medical doctor are all in favor of pursuing a generally accepted medical treatment, why would lawmakers intervene to prohibit it?

Several parts of Houston come pretty close. Come visit Longpoint Road between Old Hempstead Road and Gessner. Bring cash and wear stretchy pants.
imagine a line of trucks with pupusas, arepas, and gorditas and u can just walk around sampling each one
This whole thread is arepa erasure

If your most important issue is the rule of law and liberty for all you've gone from squishy moderate to rabid partisan over a generation.

A miniature goat farm in the mountains of New Mexico where sometimes I make artisanal cheeses and soaps and sometimes I just hang out with my goats, but I always wear long flowy skirts and read books all day and let my hair get all long and witchy-woman crazy.
if you were extremely wealthy, what would your vanity business be?

i would build a decorative brick/structural terra cotta factory where the kilns are fired with renewable energy

Some background: Houston’s toll roads are wildly profitable, tolls can soar to $20 or more, and no cash is accepted at most tollbooths. So “toll violations” are pretty commonplace here.
After Chief Justice Roberts gave a remembrance of Justice Souter, following his death last week, the only decision today is Barnes v. Felix. Kagan has the unanimous opinion vacating the Fifth Circuit in the Fourth Amendment excessive force case. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

My two current favorites for my law practice are “that gun kicks as hard as it shoots” and “you gotta hang the meat low enough that the dog will jump.”
If you are not originally from Texas, but practice law here, a good thing to do is occasionally say things like "pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered" or "that man's got less sense than a peach orchard goat."

The notion that “God has a side on every issue”—and the implication that a certain group of humans is empowered to say what side that is—is toxic to a free democracy in a diverse society.
NEW: Meet My God Votes, which since 2023 has coordinated weekly worship gatherings in the Texas Capitol — and is now in statehouses in Louisiana, Oklahoma, Maine and Indiana. The group has close ties to GOP lawmakers — "God's avengers" — and says "God has a side on every issue."
They Want to “Steer Our Nation Back to God”—Starting With Prayer Night in the Texas Capitol
My God Votes says Christians have abdicated their civic duties. The Houston group has a plan to mobilize the church—starting in Texas.

This is something many people don't understand about being a lawyer.

I will put your interests before my own. In court, I will defend the positions you tell me to defend, even if I disagree. But I cannot and will not lie for you.

Sadly, some of the people who don't understand this are lawyers.
You cannot "zealously advocate" for your client by lying to the court. They're trying to use the language of the ethics requirements without understanding them. (Also, not lying to the court is not a grounds for dismissal from a civil service job.)
Via New York Times: “The DOJ prosecutor who questioned the Trump administration’s decision to deport a Maryland man to El Salvador has been placed on indefinite paid leave for a “failure to zealously advocate” for the department — less than 24 hours after defending the gov’t in federal court.”

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive.

No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief.

For the love of Pete, stop writing your briefs in staccato. It reads like kids arguing via SnapChat. “Bruh.” —“Couldn’t be me.” — “Cap.” —“Not so.”— “Higgley-piggley.”—“Applesauce.”—“Be so for real right now.”

Lawyers who claim they’re just “looking out for the little guy” while lying to judges and robbing their clients blind are exhausting. Anyway. How was your week?

Idk who needs to hear this but asking a question in response to an email assigning you a specific task is not the same thing as “accomplishing the task.”
