I finished "Between Two Fires" by Christopher Beuhlman last night and it is the kind of book that makes me want to join a book club. All I wanted to do the second I finished it was talk with someone about it. What a fantastic read.

The only two explanations I can come up with to explain this:
1. Some abstinence only zealot got to him trying to scare people away from sex or punish them for having it.
2. He lives in the 1980s and still thinks of HIV as the Gay Plague and assumed this was DEI funding.

Between the game and the ads this was the most miserable Superbowl I've ever watched. I assume halftime was good but as a god-fearing All-American Catholic Protestant Christian white boy I was playing Shogun 2 during it in protest of whatever people were mad about this time.

The Alexa commercial is supposed to make light of someone being paranoid about AI but all of the ways shown are unironically ways that a rogue AI connected to a smart house could in fact kill a person. It's very creepy to watch a tech company make an ad like that, given they know AI misalignment.

The NFL is going to have to unironically start rigging these games going forward if they want to keep viewer retention. I don't look forward to the Superbowl anymore, I just assume it will be underwhelming nowadays.

If Trump doesn't go to prison, even because he's dead before he had the chance, I don't see how the US rebuilds its international alliances and soft power this generation. Otherwise everyone will have to assume that the US will go crazy again every four years.
