Opmerkelijk, want feitelijk valt er weinig af te dingen op de constatering dat Yeşilgöz een wel heel losse relatie onderhoudt met de waarheid.

Zo bracht de VVD-voorvrouw als minister van Justitie en Veiligheid het laatste kabinet-Rutte moedwillig ten val met een leugen over ‘nareis op nareis’. Yeşilgöz stelde destijds dat er jaarlijks ‘heel veel’ en ‘duizenden mensen’ naar Nederland komen via ‘nareis op nareis’. Cijfers van de IND toonden later dat ‘nareis op nareis’ slechts enkele tientallen keren per jaar voorkomt.

Als lijsttrekker bediende Yeşilgöz zich bij herhaling eveneens van grove leugens over haar opponenten, in de hoop in het gevlij van de kiezer te komen. Zo zou Bontenbal van gezinnen met een koophuis volgens Yeşilgöz 400 euro per maand ‘afpakken’ door de hypotheekrente af te schaffen. RTL factcheckte achteraf dat dit alleen geldt als de hypotheekrenteaftrek in één klap wordt afgeschaft. Het CDA neemt echter dertig jaar de tijd voor de maatregel.

GroenLinks-PvdA-leider Frans Timmermans werd er structureel van beticht veel geld te willen ophalen ‘bij al die hardwerkende Nederlanders’. Volgens Yeşilgöz wil GroenLinks-PvdA belastingen verhogen, en de VVD belastingen verlagen. Ook dit was ver bezijden de waarheid. De doorberekeningen van het Centraal Planbureau (CPB) toonden juist hoe GroenLinks-PvdA de hoogste koopkrachtverbetering voor werkenden in petto had.

Matthew Rhys is an insanely good actor. Generationally good. Cast him in the Heat remake good. I met him and it took a minute to place him because he carries himself differently than in any of his most famous roles. The chameleons who barely need makeup like Rhys, Cheadle or Colman are my favorites.
