Candidate filing announcement! I'm excited to be running to continue serving District 40 in the North Carolina House. During my time in the House, I've fought to be your advocate on everything from common-sense gun reforms, to teacher pay, to free and fair elections. And the work isn't nearly done.

Republicans in Raleigh agree on how to fund Medicaid — and still walked away without getting it done.

Three million North Carolinians depend on it. Doctors are being driven out. Patients are losing care.

It’s time to come back and get this done.

Republicans are gerrymandering congressional districts again b/c they're TERRIFIED of accountability for their ruinous policies. Whether it's b/c they made NC last in US for healthcare costs or doubling peoples' insurance premiums, the last thing Republicans want is for voters to get a say. #ncpol

Quick update on HB 958, the bad elections bill we’ve been watching closely here in NC.

Thanks to public advocacy, we’ve seen improvements. The provision banning election officials from encouraging voting is gone. The number of political hires at the State Board is cut from 25 to 5. [1/6]

Important update on free and fair elections in NC! HB 958 will be heard in the House Judiciary 1 committee on Wednesday, July 31.

🚨 UPDATE: House Bill 958 – Politicizing Our Elections Board

HB 958 would let partisan political appointees—handpicked by Republicans—replace one-third of the nonpartisan, career staff on the NC State Board of Elections. This is a direct threat to free and fair elections in North Carolina. [1/4]

There's no democracy without accountability. Congressional Republicans just passed a massive and deeply unpopular bill that will gut Medicaid and throw 17 million people off their health insurance. [1/5]

Like so many others, I'm angry and worried about the "tax cuts for billionaires" bill passed by the U.S. Senate. It'll add $3.3 trillion to the national debt while causing 12 million Americans to lose healthcare coverage by 2034. Those federal cuts will make our budget problems in NC worse. [1/3]

Honored to stand on our Capitol steps yesterday to help deliver a clear message: No Kings—Not Ever. [1/3]

Friends, when I sought the opportunity to represent you in the NC House, I promised to advocate fiercely for our vision and to help lift our candidates in tough races. Over the last 4 months I've worked hard to begin fulfilling that promise, and I'm excited to announce my campaign kick-off. [1/2]

UPDATE on House Bill 127 - the one trying to ban voter registration drives in North Carolina. The Election Law Committee meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) is CANCELLED. We just got notice a few minutes ago. [1/3]

A quick update about House Bill 127, which would pretty much eliminate voter registration drives in NC. This was a concern a couple months ago, but the bill was pulled from committee. Now it's back and scheduled for committee hearing on Tuesday, 6/2, 10am, Leg. Building Rm 1228. #ncpol [1/2]

This morning, I voted no on the House budget. While it slows the damage, it doesn’t undo 15 years of cuts that left NC 48th in school funding, 50th in health costs, and billions behind on basics. We need a wholly different direction. #ncpol

Grateful to join with faith leaders, Rev. Dr. Jennifer Copeland, Rabbi Eric Solomon, Rev. Laura Johnson, and Rev. Dr. Julian Prodgen to talk about dangerous bills in the North Carolina House/Senate to allow anyone 18+ to carry a concealed handgun without training, background check, or permit. [1/3]

Yesterday was disappointing, as Republicans passed HB636, which is a process to ban books in public schools. Everyone agrees we shouldn't have obscene books in school libraries, but librarians already handle that. Instead, this bill will cause political book removals, lawsuits, and wasted $. #ncpol

I was proud to join DNC Chair Ken Martin, DNC Vice Chair Reyna Walters-Morgan, and NC Dem Chair Anderson Clayton last week to talk about Griffin's attack on NC voters. I focused on preventing these attacks going forward, and here's some highlights. #ncpol

NEW: North Carolina Democratic Party asks a federal court to stop the state Board of Elections from proceeding with a ballot curing process that could potentially disenfranchise 5k military/overseas voters in the state Supreme Court race.

Agree--its an utterly lawless opinion from the NC Supreme Court majority. Looking forward to the federal courts dismantling this charade.
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. 🗣️

Today’s NC Supreme Court ruling on the 65k challenged voters will certainly impact thousands across the state. Stay tuned for additional updates, including further challenges. #NCPol

Hello friends! I wanted to introduce myself and start posting more on Bluesky. Looking forward to connecting here and talking about what's happening in the NC House. I'll also post some past videos from Instagram, including more about my background, but wanted to do a Bluesky video first. Thanks!

Thank you, @carolinaforward.bsky.social for this Gerrymandering 101 vid!

NC is the most gerrymandered state in 🇺🇸. Republicans have rigged our maps so successfully that their wins, year-over-year are foregone conclusions.

Worse...In these rigged districts, many voters have simply given up. ⬇️ #ncpol
How do we put an end to partisan gerrymandering?

There are three basic ways. None of them are easy - but important stuff rarely is.

Honored to have been sworn in as a member of the North Carolina House a couple weeks ago, and to have gotten a picture with at least one child smiling! Grateful for the opportunity to serve to people of District 40.

I'm getting going on Bluesky and also on Instagram (www.instagram.com/phil_rubin).
