Unless there's an unbreakably valid safety reason why not, all button-operated pedestrian crossings should activate the lights in pedestrians' favour instantly when pressed.

I have been developing retail properties and groceries for 25 years. This week, an interview with me appeared in Germany's leading real estate newspaper, and it will be republished (🤞) next week in the leading business newspaper.

The topic: The bicycle is the future of downtown retail.
It’s really important that #Vancouver’s Downtown Business Association, who were originally against bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of ACTUAL EVIDENCE that they’re better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced.

Safe bike-lanes mean business.

Earlier this week I spoke to London Centric about the Ringways Map and all things unbuilt London - they’ve dedicated the whole of their latest edition to the story! substack.com/home/post/p-...
Would your home have been under a motorway?
"The most astonishing and destructive thing never to happen to London," says the man who has spent twenty years researching the first true map of the unbuilt Ringways.

You’ve been told ‘scrapping Net Zero will reduce the cost of living’, so I asked X users how much the average U.K household pays per day to deliver a clean, independent energy system.

💷 9% thought £7.85.

💷 7% £5.16.

💷 14% £3.09.

💷 70% £1.63.

None were correct.

It’s 47p.

I’ve been staring, somewhat open mouthed at this map all week. One of these motorways was indeed meant to roar right past my house! An absolutely fascinating map that simultaneously makes way more sense than the London we ended up with, and shows an absolutely unthinkable parallel universe.

Everyone who actually understands the issues agrees that GB railway network decarbonisation is only possible by 2050 with quite a lot more wires, most importantly on the key freight corridors (batteries will never work well for freight) www.railway-technology.com/news/new-res...

Agents of hope.

We must get the message across that it is possible to end child poverty.

We are determined to eradicate it.

Waving goodbye to that meagre 12-13% of ongoing uk rail electrification we had in the pipeline before summer 👋😢
Indian Railways will be fully electrified next year (it’s at ~99% currently)
UK is at 38% with tentatively another 12-13% new electrification committed
Indian Railways is building a 7000km high speed rail network by 2047
We can’t even get ours all the way from central London to central Birmingham

India: 67th poorest country in the world
UK: 160th poorest country in the world

India: 100% rail electrification is affordable, and we have achieved this in 2025
UK: anything more than 39% electrification is unaffordable, and we will never achieve 100%
Here is an embarrassing graph I have just made for a report. Fun fact:

in 2020/21 Indian Railways added the equivalent of the UK’s *entire electrified railway network* (over 6000 route kilometers!) to their own electrified network - and then did this again in 2021/22

…and AGAIN in 2022/23! 🤯
