Today is a good day to remember, and to say, that the #MeToo movement was right, and was righteous, and has been vindicated over and over again. There was no overreach. There was no excess. There was no they-went-too-far.

So much work remains to be done.

Our whole thing in Silicon Valley is that we're supposed to be weird and non-conformist. It's depressing that so many engineers are silent because they're scared of a few bullies at the top of the industry.
"I also worry that Silicon Valley now punishes outward earnestness or virtue; young technologists have expressed fears of appearing soft—or worse—woke."

Senator Schumer is no longer effective and should be replaced. If you can’t lead the fight to stop healthcare premiums from skyrocketing for Americans, what will you fight for?

I've never called a representative before, but I did today! It's so wrong to have millions of people in the party work so hard to achieve the victory we saw on Tuesday, only for the most vulnerable to lose healthcare because a few senators are spineless.

One of the few development non-profits with decent evidence to back up its impact is @givedirectly.bsky.social.
You don't to tell poor people what to do though, and unfortunately that power trip drives a lot of philanthropy.
study after study after study shows that literally just handing people money and telling them "do what you want with this" reduces homelessness, increases food security for children, makes it more likely people will find and retain jobs.1

True fact: I love Taco John's so much, I went out of my way to drive by their corporate HQ in Cheyenne on a road trip through Wyoming. It was the size of a suburban house with a tiny sign.
Now I love them even more.

If low-cost chips and free AI models offer 100% privacy and the same features as big data AI assistants, then how can there NOT be an AI bubble? @petewarden.bsky.social explains why:

Most recent news about AI seems to involve staggering amounts of money. OpenAI and Nvidia sign a $100b data center contract. Meta offers researchers $100m salaries. VCs invested almost $200b in AI …

did anybody else in the US watch The Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries and feel a visceral jolt when the whole pilot turns out to hinge on the lack of safe access to abortion in 1920s Australia and the women characters’ rage about it

like “oh wow okay this show was NOT made in this country”
Here is my most damning indictment of romance as a genre: we are currently living in a time when stalkers, rapists, and murderers are romance MMCs, but I doubt I could name more than 10 books in the whole history of the genre where an FMC has an abortion.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?
