I've proudly said before that the logic of the third worldist is right in many respects and that the law is fake but also the law is real and third worldists themselves have used it to advance their own struggle. I like the law and want it to be enforced. post-ideology is where hitlerism emanates

Not for the first time, where other European leaders wring their hands over Trump, Spain’s Sánchez draws a line. A stance that is only looking more sensible (more *realistic*) as time goes on.

The kidnapping of Maduro inaugurates a highly dangerous era of U.S. empire that for perhaps the first time in an era of mass media is not pretending to be anything other than a violent, extractive enterprise of domination.

The BBC keeps calling the imperialist actions of the US 'unprecedented'; I wonder if they know anything about the history of Latin America in the last 200 years or so.

A lifetime of hearing US politicians solemnly intone about the glories of the constitution and the sacredness of law. Now they don’t even have the post 9/11 fig leaf. The whole vast military machinery is the plaything of a senile old man and his corrupt circle and most of them don’t care

If you've missed the story, we've started to use the individual total-blacklist financial sanctions designed to go after terrorists against ICC staff, and are threatening same against EU bureaucrats. Blocked from bank accounts, credit cards, online shopping, air travel, major email providers, etc
guys, "the judges at the ICC are being sanctioned by the USA and can't access their iphones or bank accounts" and "why aren't any countries banning twitter or prosecuting elon musk for owning a site that manufactures CSAM" stories are the same story

Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.

As ever - sharing Tennyson’s exhortation to leave the old year dying in the night.

Plan your city for people, and you get people.
Sydney pedestrianised George Street, controversially replacing lanes of traffic with a Light Rail line in 2019. The city has never looked back.

In Uruguay, families co-own and co-build their homes through housing cooperatives. Some chip in savings, others swing hammers.

The result? Affordable, dignified housing that stays off the private market, and a blueprint the world can learn from.
What the world can learn from Uruguay as the global housing crisis deepens
One of Latin America’s smallest nations has a robust network of housing cooperatives, which give access to permanent, affordable housing to citizens at a range of income levels.

Then look at the surface of Mars.

Then look up to the top right.

Spot Mars' moon Phobos high in the sky.

Then notice the bright spot beside Phobos.

🤔 He was right.

In response, a small but growing group of leaders is matching the scale of the challenge—steering toward a more prosperous, resilient and sustainable future.🧵
