This was a great show, especially if you enjoy history. I have so much admiration and respect for the mom and daughter. They did a wonderful job.
If you need a wholesome break from politics and sex trafficking, check out the documentary “The Last Wright” about a mother and daughter who build the last Frank Lloyd Wright house from plans he left. 🏡 🎞️

No Yooper sunrise this morning due to clouds but we did have a hard frost here on Northwest Lake Michigan, the first time this fall, and we have blooming flowers on November 1st which is a first for me and Lake Michigan is at its lowest level in 10 years now. #mymichigan

Any story with Reese’s has to be good. Even if it is Reese’s Pieces, right ET?
#kidlitchat
I think that Halloween-specific books are a great way to make the scary explainable. The monster is a misunderstood vegetarian, the ghost is just lonely, etc. As long as nobody touches their Reese's cups, then everything is just fine. #Kidlitchat

I call dibs on the pumpkin shaped Reese’s 😁
#kidlitchat
I cannot fault that, if for no other reason than it leaves more Reese's for the rest of us. #kidlitchat

You're not going to get your book right on the first draft. Let it be messy! Get the words down. Revise it into the story you hope it will be bit by bit. You'll be surprised by all the unexpected gems you find along the way.

I’m really good at seeing things I don’t like about my query after I have already sent it out several times. As much as I try to revise and edit in advance, I always end up in that same place. #kidlitchat

I read a lot of Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew. Also Charlotte’s Web and Willy Wonka.

Calvin and Hobbes was still a few years away so the Doonesbury was a favorite.

TOPIC: What were your own favorite books from childhood? (Extra points if they're in the same genre you create now.) Do you ever revisit them for inspiration? #kidlitchat

Unapologetically read what gives you joy and strength and ignites a fire inside. Arm yourself with facts, with stories, with possibilities. There are those who don’t want you to know all you can be. Who want to imprison you with woe. They want you small. Devour words and build to dizzying heights.

As you cancel streaming services, here is a casual reminder that only 16% of Americans read for pleasure anymore, and your local library has hundreds or thousands of books you haven't read.

They would love to see you stop by and renew your library card.

I tend to write in first person. It is easier and more natural for me. As far as reading, it doesn’t matter. A good story keeps me glued to the pages.

TOPIC: We want to know how you decide between first person or third person when you're working on a manuscript. Do you prefer one? Do you prefer reading one to the other? (FWIW, behind the scenes, emails flew and they came up with this topic. They hope it works!) #kidlitchat

Me too. I will never submit some work, but I still keep them around for ideas. Funny on how this was a topic for this week as yesterday I looked at some decades old work to see if they could be useful in my current WIP.
#kidlitchat
There are projects I'm at peace with never submitting, old friends who let me live in their space for awhile--and "maybe" projects that *might* pan out someday, but I've only really shelved one, permanently. #kidlitchat

A shoutout to Alison Weiss @alioop7.bsky.social for her perceptive comments on my manuscript. It was a pleasure to work with her and she is extremely insightful. I am excited to incorporate her suggestions and highly recommend Alison for editorial work. You will not be disappointed.

Yes, exactly! I love the fact that MG is hopeful and tend to have positive endings. This is why I read/write for this age group. #kidlitchat
Reading middle grade fiction has always been one of my sweet spots because there is almost always HOPE. I have found this is not always a guarantee with adult books. #KidLitChat
