Writer. Likes to rhyme, though not when writing movies or novels. But you should see my shopping lists! Has never bought an orange. #kidlitchat cohost for 14+ years on ex-Twitter (and now here on Tuesday nights at 9 PM EST!). Still bats and throws righty.
Thank you all, once again, for joining in this week's #kidlitchat (where we follow the "save the chat" structure, of course). I hope you'll come on back next week, too. See you then!

TOPIC: How do you come up with your story's structure? Are you a Save the Cat person? A hero's journey lover? Do you follow a natural rhythm, have another template or not even think about it? Discuss away! #kidlitchat

Everybody ready? Got your snacks/desert/beverage of choice? Good! Because it's almost time for #kidlitchat. 9E/6P ON THE DOT. We'll be expecting you!

While it is not true that #kidlitchat existed before the concept of "Tuesday" came to be, it is true that we #kidlit folk gather each week on Tuesday at 9PM Eastern/6PM Pacific for an hour of chatting right here on Bluesky. It's also true that I hope you join us. See you soon....

Tooting my own horn again... but I feel ultra prepared for tonight's #KidLitChat!
The writing retreat I'm most looking forward to in 2026? I am DEFINITELY going to host the #KidLitConfections "How to Write a Cake" retreat I've been threatening for years! Who's joining me? forms.gle/AVGutsnmAarM...

Thank you all for chiming in this week on #kidlitchat. I think you should all take up my challenge: show up here every* Tuesday and chat! (*ish. like, when you can. But every Tuesday is fine, too.). See you next week!

it is remarkable the number of online opportunities that have sprung up. I love them. But I still do love meeting in person and chatting over pie (or lunch) #kidlitchat

TOPIC: What workshops/conferences/challenges are capturing your attention now, as the year winds down? In-person or online? If you were a NaNo participant, have you found a replacement? #kidlitchat
November 12, 2025 at 2:00 AM
Why not spend an hour talking #kidlit here on Bluesky? Why not make that hour be today at 9pm Eastern/6pm Pacific when we have #kidlitchat (like we do every Tuesday)? Good plan! And I hope to see you then….

One trend I am a fan of? Y'all coming to #kidlitchat every week. Let's keep that one rolling, shall we? As I ring the official closing bell here I say... see you next week!
November 5, 2025 at 3:00 AM
I also think the key thing is that if you create a great piece of work, even if it's against the 'trend' of the moment, and it sparks someone... they will buy it. That's why there are long PBs amidst the short. It's why MGs or YAs kept coming out before they hit their stride in sales #kidlitchat

That said, my picture book manuscript called "67" that I tried to sell three years ago didn't get a single nibble.... #kidlitchat

I think a lot about folks trying to capture slang terms or zeitgeist moments and the confronted with the publishing timeline. A bad combo. But I do think some types of trends in the business have legs. Picture books have been getting fewer and fewer words for years, ya know? #kidlitchat

TOPIC: We just had a time change and, as always, times are changing, too. Do you keep an eye on trends? How do they inform how you work? And what trends are you noticing in the kidbook biz these days? #kidlitchat
November 5, 2025 at 2:00 AM
There's a #kidlitchat today here on Bluesky at 9PM Eastern/6PM Pacific. This happens every Tuesday, by the way, where for an hour we #kidlit folk get together and, ya know, chat. You should make it part of your Tuesday routine, I tell you. Or at least join us this week! Hope to see you soon....

As I ring the closing bell here, I note there were no tricks (once again), and as always it's a treat to hang out with you all at #kidlitchat. Thanks for joining us... and see you next week (to compare candy hauls and to chat again!).

I've lost who asked the question, but it's a good one: do Halloween stories have to be spooky/scary? I don't think so - there's worries about costumes, friendships, candy, etc. But nights with folks in costume are by default kinda spooky, so... it's also hard to avoid. #kidlitchat
October 29, 2025 at 1:36 AM
I told you, @bonnieadamson.com, this would start slow. Everyone's getting into costume. I hope we recognize our regular chatters here at #Kidlitchat
October 29, 2025 at 1:04 AM
TOPIC: It's almost Halloween which has us thinking about a lot of things, including... what makes a great Halloween (or any holiday tie-in) book? What #kidlit characters do you see becoming classic costume choices? And why are Reese's cups the best Halloween candy? #kidlitchat

I hope you'll join us tonight for our Fall Classic #Kidlitchat at 9PM Eastern/Your Related Time. I mean, sure... ever chat is a classic, so this is no different. And yeah, we chat all Fall. But I do love baseball! So grab yourself some peanuts and crackerjack... and join us here on Bluesky tonight!
October 29, 2025 at 12:09 AM
Every Tuesday, including this very one, there's a #kidlitchat here on Bluesky at 9PM Eastern/6PM Pacific. It's an hour of chatting with #kidlit folk (many of whom are also dessert folk, too, I must add), and this week it's gonna be more exciting than the World Series! Err. Or at least fun. Join us!
October 28, 2025 at 4:01 PM
Thanks all for joining in here on #kidlitchat this week. Social media may be a mess (or not) and exhausting (or not) but what it definitely is is a way for me to get to hang out with y'all every week. And I'm grateful for that. (And I'll see you next week!)

Some folks love images. Some folks love text. We call all only do what we can do, and when we're miserable on a platform, it shows and isn't worth the effort. But doing one or two platforms well can be both fun and helpful. Start small. Breathe. And, of course, attend #kidlitchat :-)

Any of us who have 'been around awhile' have heard sooooo many different variation on what 'you have to do!" from publishers. The real answer is no one has ever been able to boil it down to a success formula. #kidlitchat

It is interesting how many folks I used to meet at in-person events and conferences who I knew online first. You had instant connection and then the meeting built on that and made online relationships stronger. That kinda... flow... is harder to find now, I feel. #kidlitchat
