A hundred years after its birth, Quantum Mechanics still confounds [via Science.org] 🧪🥼⚛️🧰❓

100 years on, quantum mechanics is redefining reality—with us at the center
Increasingly popular theories hold that experimental outcomes really do depend on the observer

I hate to be the one to point this out to @apsphysics.bsky.social news, but didn't this become common knowledge after the seminal work of Ace Ventura on the Ray Finkle case way back in 1994

Amazing to see the work of @itsmealeale.bsky.social and Partyk L Bartosik highlighted like this.

Having followed it as it was written and knowing the hard work that was poured into it, really brings a smile to one's face to see it highlighted.

Yes to detecting entanglement using thermodynamics!
A Thermometer for Measuring Quantumness | Quanta Magazine
“Anomalous” heat flow, which at first appears to violate the second law of thermodynamics, gives physicists a way to detect quantum entanglement without destroying it.

Yesterday, my daughter referred to In 'n' Out animal style fries as "California poutine", and now it will forever be called that in my household.

It's been 3 months but I finally got through posting the recordings from our QIST in the CSU workshops. The recordings don't do the discussions justice. Hopefully, these are useful to folks interested in learning #quantum info science and tech and get it in their courses.

Typing with a bandaged finger is (unsurprisingly) extremely frustrating and slow.
In related news, knife safety and personal protective equipment is important and should not be ignored, even if "it's just one piece of drywall and a small cut"

Today for shits and giggles, I took a BNC cable Jerry-rigged a loop out of it and plugged it into a scope to see what I'd pick up in my lab.

What the hell would cause this? Like a clock, every 4 seconds jumps amplitude. The underlying signal is ~171 kHz
