Welcome back from leave... you know how you thought you were periodically tending to email.... you lied to yourself

I hate to be the one to point this out to @apsphysics.bsky.social news, but didn't this become common knowledge after the seminal work of Ace Ventura on the Ray Finkle case way back in 1994

Typing with a bandaged finger is (unsurprisingly) extremely frustrating and slow.
In related news, knife safety and personal protective equipment is important and should not be ignored, even if "it's just one piece of drywall and a small cut"

This is the third year of our DOE RENEW project, and likely to be the last time I'll get to host these workshop so it was a bit bittersweet. Fingers crossed we can get more funding to continue these.

A few weeks ago we hosted our 3rd set of QIST in the CSU workshops. Always great to gather with colleagues and learning more about quantum science and how to teach it. Here are some photos from the Introductory QIST and Educational Modules workshop, Quantum Sensing workshop photos in the reply...

Today for shits and giggles, I took a BNC cable Jerry-rigged a loop out of it and plugged it into a scope to see what I'd pick up in my lab.

What the hell would cause this? Like a clock, every 4 seconds jumps amplitude. The underlying signal is ~171 kHz

I dont want to start a fight, but I do want to clarify that Americans are wrong on what "smarties" are

Been a bit of a chaotic few weeks for me with everything going on, but happy to say in all that chaos the Perron family became a little more complete. Welcome to the world Wells "Whoopsie" Perron

Enjoying a pretty standard beer to go along with the #StanleyCupPlayoffs. (Sorry for the dad joke)
Great come back win by the @winnipegjets.com to kick it all off.

#quantum mechanics class had fun measuring single-photon interference today! We got some of the @thorlabs.bsky.social quantum optics kits through a grant earlier this year. Considering I previously had 0 experience with optics, how easy we were able to successfully setup two kits makes me happy.

It's been a busy week since the #APSsummit25. A lot going on in the lab & today we got to enjoy a great talk from Arjen Vaartjes. An intro to donor based qubits and the great work out of the Morello group. It's been great having Arjen here this week. I'm learning a lot and it's only 1/2 way through!

Adam (the @apsphysics.bsky.social positive atom) over heard some negative self talk from me and had to slap me straight. Thanks Adam, I needed that. #APSsummit25 #StayPositive

New toy arrived the Friday before the APS Global Physics Summit.
Going to be an exciting few weeks #Physics #quantum

Where is that?
Same vibe from a trip a few years ago (Algonquin Park in Ontario Canada)

Had a great time with the family doing the quantum escape room put on by LabEscape. They're in San Marcos (north county San Diego) for the rest of the week, then up to Anaheim for APS. Highly recommend. #quantum

I love the many versions of this joke, but think I prefer yours, with a story format, much more than this visual pun I've given on exams

Big W for the boys today. So happy for them finally getting championship in the last tourney together.
Awesome cap to a great season for a great group of kids and families!

The second section, however, got the, I would say, equally-appreciated version where one of the string attachments broke

A colleague I co-taught into physics with last semester quickly threw something like this together for one of our class meetings and it went impressively smooth... for the 1st section....

Ok, so if you're a hockey parent and are so invested in a u8 B game that you break the glass with your aggressive cheering... maybe reflect on your behavior. Sucks the kids didn't get to play half the third period. I hope it was worth the bloody hand

Here's your video.
I'm a big fan, but may exchange it for a different, more spread out layout. I'd prefer one with more room and the cursor keys and the del home end etc keys between the numpad and the standard keys
