I make stuff that makes noises, I make songs that make use of those noises, I play noises for the cat, the cat doesn’t love the noises. Perennial lurker.

They were supposed to announce it yesterday so I see no harm in posting here. Weaklung's first show of 2026 and first at new(ish) venue Book Club.
Sun Jan 18, day before MLK day so hopefully you won't have to worry about clocking in Monday

Is this Owen’s way of telling me we got a gig opening for the Smashing Pumpkins?
Ha. Of course the two most annoying Chicago bands are playing together.

Band practice is great and all but those sweet people would not put up with me inserting a full length rendition of Mogwai Fear Satan in the middle of song that’s already three times longer than any one of our other songs, so for moments like this it’s always gotta be Playing Guitar Alone In My Room

apparently the team that’s threatening relocation in order to get tax breaks from their home city is playing against the team that’s collectively owned by their home city, and i’m supposed to prefer the former?

London, 2009. Met a guy after the pubs closed sitting by the side of the road who claimed to be Jim from Massive Attack. Not sure that there ever was a Jim from Massive Attack.
Please quote this with stories of your minor interactions with non-celebrities, e.g. “I once accidentally bumped into a man in the Wellingborough branch of Holland & Barrett”

My parents sat down with me and my sister to watch Trainspotting specifically as an anti-drug message. It worked, I’ve never tried heroin.
Name 1 movie from your childhood you were way too young to watch.

I have found myself in the presence of an American football game and you all know this shit is ridiculous, right? It’s the dubstep of sports.

I watched It’s A Wonderful Life and I didn’t cry, kind of worried about what this means about my emotional state.

Restringing a guitar is one of those productive procrastinations that makes you feel like you’re accomplishing something while putting off the thing you’re supposed to be doing except when it’s a 12-string and you put THAT task off by doing the thing you were actually supposed to do to begin with.

Ultimately this can be distilled to the simple comparison of Do They Know It’s Christmas? (cheesy, good) to We Are The World (cheesy, bad).
There's not many cultural areas where we really diverge from the States, but the Christmas canon remain one of them. I mean, we both do the trad carols and Bing, sure, but whilst the Yanks are all "O Tannenbaum" and "Carol of the Bells", we've got Wizzard, Slade, Rea, The Pogues, The Waitresses...

Question is, will I be dead before the songs on The Wicker Man (1973) soundtrack enter public domain?
On New Year’s Day the copyrights for thousands of works expire, allowing anyone to freely record, perform, or interpolate them. That includes compositions (music and lyrics, not recordings) from 1930 including standards like “Georgia On My Mind,” “Dream A Little Dream Of Me,” and “I Got Rhythm.”

This planet needs to get its shit together. Celebrating the solstice like a month into winter when we’ve got at least until April to get out on the other side of this shit. Oooh the days are getting longer, are they? Fuck you, gimme shorter days with more sunlight you frosty bastard.

Kind of hate that for all my disdain of various segments and individual examples of humanity I always find myself siding with the most human position in any given scenario.

I love Wikipedia. You wanna know about something? Who doesn’t! Give ‘em cash! A bunch of nerds working mostly for free to make sure information is true and correct, least you can do is help keep the lights on.

Here’s a wee snippet of my saved articles list:
