No, we need to shut down the companies that generate them, destroy the industry, and salt the earth.

It’s 2026, and apparently it’s the “50th anniversary of punk”. There’s going to be a lot of Media Stuff about it this year, and most of it will be wrong. A People's History of Punk, fronted by @chrisgpackham.bsky.social, gets it right. Here's my review.

"There’s a soulfulness to country music that can elude you if you just look at the big picture." Emmylou is right. Listen to the good stuff, not the "corny" stuff.

One thing I've learned from having a family member in the forestry business is that trees explode a lot more often than you'd think.
I've lived in Minnesota my whole life and have experienced some major cold snaps but this is the first time I've heard about exploding trees.

A key to all this is "the media enjoying the story". They have to take a lot of responsibility for the rise of Reform. BBC News trailed an interview with Jenrick this morning as if it was some kind of journalistic coup and not just PR for him.
It's now received wisdom that Farage is taking on too many Tories. But is that really the case: especially when you remember that what he really wants to do is not differentiate from them, but to take their place. My piece on the Jenrick defection.

Jenrick wants to be Vance. He can't be.
What the defection tells us about the fight for the right.

It's awful. @metoffice.gov.uk please make it stop.
Note to UK weather app users. Please time travel back to yesterday and stop your Met Office app from updating. It has dropped the single-screen view and clear design in favour of a long-scroll monstrosity which looks like every other shitty overcrowded weather app. WITH ADS.

Been reading an acclaimed recent literary novel. It was OK until I got to this throwaway sentence about an #autistic person.
Ignorant, stereotyped and using outdated language. Thoughtless, and pointless too as it didn't affect the narrative.

This is our part in the fight against fascism. We don't have to put up with the dishonesty in our media and politics that is tearing us apart. The great news is that there is plenty we can do. Please join us.
Anyone up for "an open, intelligent conversation about how political deception has shaped our democracy... and what we can do to restore honesty, #accountability and #trust"? @mikebernerslee.bsky.social and Jennifer Nadel will be at The North Wall Oxford Jan 27 & the Kenton Theatre, Henley, Jan 28
