What's happening at this rarified level of society is what Arendt says happened under pressure from the Nazis:

The inversion of good & evil, virtue & vice, crime & duty, as the arbiters of normalcy in "respectable society" acquiesced to the regime's demand to smother every instinct of humanity.
Donald Trump has exposed an ugly truth about American companies: they’re no longer even pretending to be good citizens.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social The Government must start pointing out, with evidence, what Russia has done to us already.

...It's Brexit again isn't it!

This is what oconghaile and purchase and all flagellators/self flagellators seem to miss.
Because once a current government admits that (previous) UK governments made huge mistakes, they are no longer bound to the "Brexit MUST stand" mantra, and that would allow a sensible discussion to reconsider the current Brexit, which cannot be annulled but could be undone.

It’s factions like these that destroy the Labour party. I’ll never forgive the Union leaders supporting #Brexit despite they had no clue of what a single market was. Here they show up again.
Trade union leaders, over 25 Labour MPs and members' groups have launched a new call to end the factional culture coming from the top of the Labour Party and to restore Labour democracy and members’ rights.
