Keep on keeping on.
Rattled this one off on a couple of wet afternoons.

Good to read some of the background after all this time, and despite Moaning Minnie putting lots of people off The Smiths in general, they were one of "the" sixth form bands.

Also a great update on The Shop Assistants in 2022 book, Whatever Happened to the C86 Kids by @nigetassell.bsky.social

Side two, track 12.
Blog update: The Shop Assistants spent a comparatively brief amount of time in the limelight, but "Safety Night" got to number one in the indie charts for 3 weeks in March 1986. Their last shot before they signed to a major, it feels like the doors of indiepop being kicked right open.
75. Shop Assistants - Safety Net (53rd and 3rd)
All the singles to top the NME Indie Charts since its launch in 1981, complete with an overview of the other music in the charts each week.

The BBC has been educating, informing and entertaining since October 1922......the equivalent of 768 Trussllfes.

In 1 Trusslife, she turned the global banking system against the UK.
If you're cheering Trump on then you have no right to call yourself a patriot.

You absolute moron.

I'm absolutely bloody sick of self-appointed "patriots" claiming to adore Britain while trying to destroy our national institutions – including, this week, our world-revered public broadcaster.

Fiscal creep has been an amazingly easy way for recent Governments to raise tax without anyone noticing.

Here's the higher rate tax band since 1990.

It rose faster than inflation from 1994 to 2009. Then began a steep decline - with many more people paying higher rate.

Average Male life expectancy in UK

1970 - 68 years

2025 - 83 years

I'll take those extra 15 years thanks.
Ah the 1970s.

Stagflation, three day weeks, collapsing infrastructure. Civil War in Northern Ireland. In yer face racism and bigotry everywhere. Bin strikes. Strikes in general. Blackouts. Industrial decline. Wage inequality. Dog crap everywhere. And households spent 25% of their income on food.

Remember, these are the emails they allowed to be released.

Churches across the UK — some centuries-old, uninsulated, many heritage buildings — are embracing electric heat-pump systems to replace oil and gas boilers. It’s a powerful symbol of how decarbonisation and stewardship go hand-in-hand.
