Let's stop pretending that the billionaire media, endlessly attacking the BBC, has the slightest interest in balance, impartiality and accuracy. They won't be happy until the BBC is more rightwing than Vlad the Impaler. And then it still won't be enough.

At 14, Spencer is already an exemplary human.
Along with others of his generation implored Coles at their AGM to be better corporate citizens and help protect the Maugean skate and improve sustainability.

This is what happens when govts abandon their obligation to build a good society, capitulate to “the market” and ignore the principle of housing as a human right.
This is an easy fix. Legislate to outlaw developer apartheid against social tenants and build more public housing.

Teachers and parents have told us they need the right tools and training, so they know how to act and what to do.

The first problem in finding accessible accommodation is its scarcity. Some providers of motel rooms or caravan park cabins do have even one such facility. Rarely more than one. #auspol #accessibletourism
Who would be a carer?
Whether because of temporary disability or permanent need, the demand for accessible holiday accommodation is growing with our ageing population.

The ruinous result of the US approach to freedom of information and media has made anti-democratic contagion impossible to ignore * Past/Present is a new column which places current events in historical context For a generation of liberal democratic leaders shaped by the verities of the 1990s, the prospect that new media and communications technologies would deliver their citizens to fascism and war has seemed, until recently, unthinkable. Today, waves of racist violence facilitated by mass-scale misinformation have finally invited the beginnings of some response. The fate of the US, and the poisonous entente of corporate media monopoly and far-right leadership, has made the prospect of anti-democratic contagion now impossible to ignore. Measures to protect the young have taken shape with relative speed, with Australia extolling its pioneering (and unproven) initiatives on age-verification and social network restriction due to take effect on 10 December. If Labor wishes to reclaim its moral authority, it must break with the consultant paradigm: rebuild public governance, fund socially vital disciplines and restore universities as places of learning, not revenue streams. #auspol #universitiesAU
How the ALP outsourced the soul of higher education
For most of its history, the Australian Labor Party spoke of education as a public good, the light on the hill, a vision of collective progress through strong institutions, universal access, and the elevation of ordinary citizens.

Inequality and the future of democracy
Rising inequality and declining living standards have posed a threat to democracy in several democracies, but so far not in Australia. However, the increasing inequality of wealth, driven by housing becoming unaffordable without rich parents, is a threat.
