Obviously MAGA is now behind the overthrow of Maduro because it was successful. Before, they recognized that such an effort had a good chance of failing. But, most importantly, they don't care at all whether it was legal or the right thing to do.

Yeah, that's not how I remember it. No one held back because there were too many guilty politicians. Instead, the guilty politicians successfully blocked our efforts to obtain justice. And, by "guilty politicians", I mean virtually all Republicans.
I think people did not want to believe the obvious truth: that January 6th was an attempted coup that was abetted by the highest levels of the Republican Party.

It would’ve meant arresting, trying, and possibly imprisoning many of America’s most powerful politicians.
I think people weren’t really ready to come to terms with what it meant. A lot of the policy response after (e.g., suggestions to add a domestic terrorism statute) missed the forest for the trees. These weren’t rogue extremists — it was key members of one of two major political parties here.

Not measuring the true impact of a policy change IS ignoring the possible harms of well-meaning policy. We should decide how much weight to give those hurt by a policy rather than have that done for us.
"But can't we talk about the people this policy harms?" is a good way to never enact policy that helps a whole lotta people. It's not that you ignore the possible harms of well meaning policy, but you have to be careful about how much weight you give them.
December 23, 2025 at 5:15 PM
Obviously. My point is that the losing side has to be quantified for a fair assessment.
Every policy has winners and losers. The goal of good policy is to maximize the winners while minimizing the losers. Congestion pricing does this remarkably well a) given the stats on who drives into Manhattan and b) how it offers remedies such as tax credits to low-income drivers.
It sounds like a very good thing but wouldn't the analysis be more fair if inconvenience and cost to some was included? Don't know how you measure it but it should definitely be included. Virtually nothing is 100% win-win.

Yeah, I don't listen to women, I just vote for them, Hillary and Harris. Your insane takes on people are why Trump won. Take a chill pill and look around you.
This guy's problem is that he doesn't listen to women. Just tunes them out.
Having the correct positions on various issues is not sufficient to make a good candidate. Harris was terrible because she could not express a compelling story of why she should be president. If we could read her mind, it wouldn't surprise me if she simply thought it was her turn.

All this talk about MTG and her possible changes in position makes me wonder why it should matter. I would assume that most of those commenting would never vote for her no matter the office she seeks. I certainly would not.

For 50 years the right has been telling us that the appropriate response to this is to open fire on these goons. They say we need assault weapons as a bulwark against a tyrannical government snatching people off the streets.
In Portland, Oregon, masked ICE GOONS abducted and vanished US citizen Gonzalo Catalan last week. Tragically, his family remains unaware of his whereabouts and has not received any communication from him as of today.

I'm surprised to see this kind of thing in 2025. Anyone who thinks the OS or the programming language one uses makes a good programmer is himself not a good programmer.

Programmers, Don't Use Windows!
Windows turns programmers into mouse operators. macOS, built on Unix, keeps the command line alive—where everything is a file, tools connect through pipelines, and real programmers stay in control.

Excellent article by @nicholasgrossman.bsky.social taking issue with @ezrakleinbot.bsky.social‬'s recent “[Charlie] Kirk was practicing politics in exactly the right way” article. As Grossman says, the MSM "are adamantly opposed to recognizing bad faith". This is exactly the problem.

So much for Charlie Kirk being against political violence. They are all liars! Every single one of them!
I hadn’t seen this. Kirk, the moderate free speech guy who did politics the right way per some liberals (!), called for Biden to be executed.

Meanwhile Joe Biden put out a very strong statement condemning Kirk’s killing.

Both sides!

"He's in the process of establishing a dictatorship."
It's a simple 8-word sentence. News media could tell the public that. They know it's true. They report on the various steps toward autocracy every day. But they're afraid to utter that 8-word sentence. Which is more evidence of how true it is.
