I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

along with the heinous literal crimes i think a lot about how there's a kind of moral, national crime in subjecting all of us to this, to this consuming our politics, committed against us by a number of powerful and connected people up to and including the president

meanwhile american newskies are like "hi @chilis do you still have bb back ribs" and "here's a photo of my hamster" but it's a ferret

The Halloween party I went to was a model of the kinds of people I want to be around: all ages 79 years to 13 months, so many creative and fun costumes, interesting conversations, trans kids getting PhDs, autistic kids learning Spanish, I played Beyblade and had delicious chili.

I think any story about Trump's autocracy should be mostly about the people and institutions who failed to stop it. This guy isn't a political genius, everything else just happens to be rotten. 'Toddler Consolidates Power In Household' is a story about incompetent parents, not shrewd maneuvering

NOAA hurricane hunters flying aboard a P-3 Orion aircraft ("Kermit") are monitoring Hurricane Melissa as most aircraft steer clear. The storm poses a catastrophic threat to Jamaica and Haiti.

The crew are among the many federal workers working without pay during the US government shutdown.

Stretched thin air traffic controllers getting $0 pay stubs working multiple jobs. This is a safety risk, for anyone flying soon
PAYCHECK $0.00

A single dad holding back tears on national TV because his federal paycheck can’t cover food and rent, while Trump’s building a $350 million ballroom at the White House.

Is America great yet?

I know a lot of people talk about "Ken Griffey's swing", "John Olerud's swing" but for my money there is nothing more beautiful than Alejandro Kirk:

- 5'7 and built like a Welsh corgi
- basically drops halfway into a splits on each swing
- each swing is a Street Fighter "Shooooryuken" uppercut

This is the week I think we passed the last offramp. Maybe we were done a while ago, but I optimistically held hope for a democratic transition and now I don't believe it's going to happen.

Lots of talk about this in the aviation community. A 737 over Utah may have been struck in the windshield by a meteorite. I want to emphasize that the safety design worked and the plane landed safely. If this turns out to be true it is an exceedingly rare, possibly unique event.

I’m hearing a pretty unusual reason for the crack in this windshield, if you have any intel would love to hear via DM. 🛰️
