Sound. Film. Sound for film. Music production. TV production. Huskies. Mostly house-building and gardening now. It’s a long story. Mainly here for the dogs and the movies.

Sad news about Bobby Duvall's passing.💔 I had the privilege of working with him many times over the years, most recently on "12 Mighty Orphans," and each time was a pleasure. RIP

Never ugly cried so much in all my life. Goodbye Mika. I loved you so much. The very best husky ever.

Leaving Las Vegas. Coming to 4K Blu-ray in the UK, on May 18 from StudioCanal. Rescanned from the 16mm negative, restored, and with a new director-approved grade. Lots of extras. Haven’t owned it since the DVD release, so an easy buy. Zero info about it on the StudioCanal website yet 🤷‍♂️

THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS was released 35 years ago today. One of the most commercially and critically successful crime thrillers ever made, the making of story is like having an old friend for dinner…

I never imagined I’d be googling “Taylor Swift Whitgift Centre”. Here’s how the Whitgift looked last summer when I took a walk over there while waiting for my van to be fixed.

Why does EVERY doctor, whether they’re a gastroenterologist or a neurologist or an eye surgeon, demand to know what sport I was playing when I got injured? Will I get taken more seriously if I say “rugby” than I would if I say “table tennis”?

Sure, video is important. But a still image lingers, and can often tell a story more effectively.
The Washington Post just laid off its entire award-winning photo team. They were our eyes in places we'll never see. It's a horrifying loss at a time when lying governments, propaganda and AI slop are on the rise.

You occasionally run across something cool on Threads - tho being Threads it naturally starts with someone being a bit of a dick.

An oft-remade classic turns 70 today in Invasion of the Body Snatchers, which released back in 1956!

This iconic piece of sci-fi horror has remained relevant through several remakes, including the famous 1978 version.

Well, all the sleeping hasn’t just been about Mika being cute (tho he is). To add to his severe back problems, new vet reveals he also has stage 2 kidney disease. Changing drugs. Spent the last 24 hours researching how to make my own dog food, and wishing I’d done this sooner.

Another one of those all-too-common HDMI failures on an old but almost totally unused Marantz AV receiver. It worked great for about 5 minutes, then “phutt”, the ARC connection sounds like a broken moped engine. Seriously WTF.

On Film 4 now, Bone Tomahawk. Not sure there’s a better written and performed story of hubris, and I won’t be watching thru to the end (again). I think it’s great, but do read some reviews first.

I forgot how much I hate mixing in Logic Pro. And this project only has five tracks! This year will be my twentieth year working primarily in Nuendo, and I’m going back to it as soon as this gets signed off.
