Again today, I used @5calls.org to help frame a call on the Trump Budget Bill to my US representative
@repkimschrier.bsky.social and for the first time calling any of my Congress people, I got a staffer live on the call. Still used some of that script, but it was helpful. Call your representative.

New: Sam Darnold's NFC title game performance was less about silencing doubters and more about rewarding the guys whose faith never wavered. The guys who love him. The guys who would do anything for him.

He just led those guys to the Super Bowl. www.nytimes.com/athletic/699...

Yesterday, I awoke to news of another ICE killing in MN. On Bluesky, the conversation was deeply critical of ICE. But I wanted to see how things were going on X. Surprisingly, the attempts there to blame the victim weren't getting as much traction as I suspected. So I wrote a thing.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara: "People have had enough. This is the third shooting in less than 3 weeks. The MPD went the entire year last year recovering about 900 guns from the street, arresting hundreds of violent offenders, and we didn't shoot anyone ... this is not sustainable."

The president should be impeached and convicted, as should everyone responsible for these outrages. ICE should be disbanded. So should the Department of Homeland Security. And the people who have killed should be investigated and brought before judges and juries.
We have to see the logic of the killings as well as the killings themselves. The horror is a truth in itself. But it is also a sign of a political logic, one known from the totalitarian regimes of the twentieth century.

Imagine how much they’d be lying about what happened without all the videos showing it from multiple angles.

Spoke with a staffer for Rep Kim Schrier and expressed opposition to HR 7147, which gives DHS $ in slush fund without oversight and to to claw back funding in the future. They recognized my number; say the Rep has no position yet but they're hearing from MANY folks back home opposing. Use @5calls.

If there's one empirical insight I'd want everyone to understand about American politics, it's this:

America's problems are solved problems. Just not here.

What would change if the US simply matched the average of 31 peer democracies? Not Denmark or Norway. Just the middle of the pack. 🧵

This isn't just a casual observation. Fascism scholars have long made this point. It's why calling them "weird" was a more effective strategy than talking about the prices of eggs. Fascism is an aesthetic political movement - you need to make people feel embarassed and horrified by it.
one of the most effective weapons we have against fascism is mockery, especially when its really funny
It occurs to me all the yelling at ICE in MPLS isn't merely funny. Getting made fun of like this is awful for morale. ICE is losing field officers faster than it can wave them through training, and a big part of it is how little of this these little weasels can take.

I'm kind of surprised how much the death of Bobby Weir continues to impact me. I was something of a "casual Deadhead" - I only saw a dozens shows starting in the early 90s, and none of the post-Jerry shows. But I'm listening to a lot of Dead and post-Dead music again this weekend and this morning.

NEW: A mass propaganda event is about to engulf the US news cycle and what, if anything, survives it will be a lesson for our times.

But it’s what the rest of the world does now that’s key. When someone tells you who they are, believe them.
