☀️ Morning, friends

Inspiration from one of our greats—Dr. Bill Foege, whose leadership helped eradicate smallpox.

Near the end of his life, he reminded us: public health can be great again. And he believed in all of us to carry it forward.

This is the week that the US withdrawal from the WHO is supposed to be finalized

I spoke with @npr.org about how damaging the withdrawal will be, especially since RFK Jr has greatly weakened US national capacity to tackle health emergencies

The divorce between the U.S. and WHO is final this week. Or is it?
The U.S. is the only country allowed to withdraw from the World Health Organization. And Jan. 22 is the day when Trump's pullout announcement should go into effect. But ... it's complicated.

We have the CDC-funded Hepatitis Vaccine trial in Guinea-Bissau protocol.

It’s worse than you thought.

Scoop: The leaked protocol of the CDC-funded Hepatitis B vaccine trial in Guinea-Bissau. “This is another Tuskegee.”
The protocol reveals that the trial will withhold the Hepatitis B birth dose from thousands—without placebos, without universal maternal screening, and with endpoints critics call indefensible.

Vaginal estrogen would probably fix more resistant “UTIs” than any other intervention.
Only 9% of Medicare beneficiaries with genitourinary syndrome of menopause filled a prescription for vaginal estrogen. Most women, including those with painful sex, vaginal atrophy, and recurrent UTI, did not fill a prescription. ja.ma/45bvcUe

Currently on ID consults and seeing unprecedented volumes and an increasingly immunocompromised population at risk for life-threatening infections.
