After a year+ of procrastinating, I've finally put together @nukit.bsky.social's Tempest air purifier, inspired by the fact I'm desperately trying to avoid my partner's COVID. 😭

Anyway, it's sleek as hell and runs so, so quiet. I particularly like the handles built into the top panel.

N... not to sound dismissive, but I really think both Canadians and Americans severely overestimate how much the rest of the world cares or notices?

I don't think most of Europe even remembers Canada exists most of the time, tbh, let alone pays attention to the flag. Sorry.
Americans have been doing this forever.

Canadians have known about it forever.
We know the actual tells and we're not telling you what they are.

I’m hearing from many residents who are concerned about the City of Ottawa’s direction that all staff must work in the office five days each week.

Like you, I was surprised to learn about this directive.

Really wish Canadian regulations weren't so stupid about disallowing these :/

Day67 of photoshopping @lastweektonight.com's John Oliver with fossils in the hopes that he saves the Paleontological Research Institution

The coprolite (fossilized dung) Lumbricaria (PRI76858). Comedian is H. sapiens. Maybe PRI's new storage could be the "John Oliver Coprolitastic Shed"? 🧪 #fossil

What a cowardly response by the school. I'm not particularly hopeful that OCDSB will do the right thing, but I wrote to the principal and a couple of other OCDSB administrators, and I hope other people do the same. Bright young students should not be punished for shining a light on atrocities.

If you're in Canada and wanting to do something concrete to protect abortion access, please support Abortion Care Canada!

Their sole mission is to increase abortion access but their funding is not being renewed and that's under the current Liberal government!

Help them fight back below⬇️

For over 17 years we have enhanced access to abortion as National Abortion Federation Canada. We are thrilled to continue this work as Abortion Care Canada.

Did you know that today is the anniversary of abortion being decriminalized in Canada? That only happened because a Holocaust survivor grew up to be a doctor and insisted on performing safe abortions even though it was illegal.

Just, you know.. somethin' to think about right now for no reason!

My Bread and Roses-adjacent story: I do config/troubleshooting for library software. "Bread and roses" is my go-to test OPAC search, because the first page of results has: 1) a book we own in print, 2) a book we own as an e-resource, and 3) a book we don't own but can get through interlibrary loan

A million darkened kitchens, a thousand mill lofts grey
Are touched with all the radiance that a sudden sun discloses
For the people hear us singing: "Bread and roses, bread and roses"
Somebody yelled at me for posting about Ganymede instead of /the state of things/ last night.

I know we’re (almost) all on the same page here, but a Bluesky without cute cats, science facts, and dumb jokes would be bad for everyone.

The reason A.I. is being shoved down our throats is shareholders want a return on their investment. Every company that integrates this crappy tech into their products knows you don't want it, but they've sunk too much money into it and don't care. Turn it off, don't use it, don't look back.

and the choice of that strategy tells you they are afraid you *will* do something about it
