The "why do you care so much about the NY mayoral election" takes strike me as pretty obtuse. The world's sole superpower is being taken over by fascists, and this was part of the struggle to define what the opposition to that will look like. That obviously has major implications for all of us?

It is a low bar possibly, but seeing a politician win, especially a significant win, by galvanising disenfranchised voters on a platform of unity, compassion and hope, a platform which supported marginalised groups such as migrants and trans/non-binary individuals, feels pretty important right now.

there is no debate to be had about integration in the UK. The debate should be about what we do about the way we indulge delusional people by pretending their arguments are not bad faith.

I have discovered there are people out there with full time demanding jobs, a young family, and marathon training (for fun!) on top of it all. Meanwhile my inner monologue just screams HOW DOES ANYONE DO ANYTHING about a thousand times a day. Is there a secret formula? Please share.

Having a depressing time in the replies to this because liberals don't think this applies to them too.
It's so strange to me how the absolutely core question at the heart of politics - "what kind of society do we want to live in?" - is so absent from discussion, either assumed settled or reduced to meaningless generalities.

I'm just speculating here, but - hear me out - maybe, just maybe, autism isn't a defect and is just a facet of a range of brain development. And, maybe, we should focus on the specific needs of individuals rather than associating broad unfocussed labels with specific types of disability.
