Whether engaging with patients to better understand their needs & challenges, trying to optimize prosthetic stimulation, or probing fundamental genetic and neural mechanisms, I'm enormously proud of the Hopkins vestibular research community. It's work worth doing. It's work worth funding.
Our work on balance -critical for mobility, especially as we age- links basic neuroscience to real-world clinical needs & is only possible with sustained NIH support. Federal cuts threaten research like ours, with direct impacts on fall prevention, rehab, and support of aging populations. Read more:

The fact that both are quite experienced—8 years and 12 years with CBP—is yet more evidence that CBP should be abolished and all of its agents fired. There's no way to "reform" or "retrain" that, it's just a violent gang with badges.

This is an excellent point. It’s also misguided to compare democratic backsliding in America with other countries by starting at Trump’s second term and not including the previous 24 years of democratic erosion by Republicans in all branches and levels of government
Here’s why I think this is largely misguided: that such speedy backsliding has been achieved without *the need* for “policy changes” is not an illustration of the resilience of institutions: it shows how compatible with autocracy those institutions were to begin with. www.ft.com/content/b474...
How steep is Trump’s democratic backsliding?

Yes! The truth is the truth; it is not, in fact, sensitive to the positions people take on it.

Never let a single goddamned person on the Right ever claim again that they’re the party of law and order without laughing in their lying face.
So Capitol Police officers were assaulted and injured on Jan 6th, the White House today is blaming them for the violence, and the people who attacked them have been pardoned and are back to mock and abuse them on the 5th anniversary.

And the GOP is the party of the police? Really? REALLY??

This is the kind of big thinking we need.

The Democratic world should be going through Supreme Court precedents. Here the key date is the 2000 GWB election, which @raskin.house.gov called effectively stolen — and the Court’s work after that the fruit of a poison tree.
Mayor Mamdani has nullified every executive order issued by Eric Adams after he struck his corrupt bargain with Trump to secure dismissal of the indictment against him.

Another outrageous action. The Netanyahu govt is banning over 30 aid orgs — including CARE, Mercy Corps & Doctors Without Borders groups — from providing life-saving aid to people in Gaza.

Another betrayal of humanity. And, once again, the Trump Admin says and does nothing.

So much of "cancel culture" discourse is a re-description of the normal functioning of a democracy and public discourse by people who didn't like the results of one, or both, or how it made them feel.
Saying that someone doesn’t deserve to be a senator isn’t canceling them, that is the public opinion candidates are subject to in a democracy.

Trump is far weaker than he looks. So is the GOP. We should draw them out, drain them at every opportunity, and fight for people’s wellbeing at every turn.

We have been sent here to fight for people.
