Fredericton city council voted yesterday to sell a property adjacent to the current Liverpool Street school to be used as the site of a replacement for both Liverpool Street and Forest Hill elementary schools.

This also demonstrates that this freeze is bad for municipalities. Anything that went up is frozen for this year, but those that went down do of course pay based on the lower assessment. One home in my neighbourhood is down over $200k!
A quick glance at the 2026 property assessments in my neighbourhood shows all sorts of different changes over 2025 – both up and down, some very significant. Either this is an attempt to correct inconsistencies or it's a complete mess and it will be further obscured by this year's assessment freeze.

Definitely a loss for downtown Fredericton. I think losing the lumberyard was inevitable but I thought the store itself would survive.

VW prominently advertising a car it's discontinued in a colour you could never buy is quite something.

Very relatable.

The City of Fredericton is seeking proposals for the former Craig's Automotive property on Woodstock Road and on Facebook people are suggesting it be used for parking for the Sunshine Diner.

Why are we jumping right to high speed rail before fixing our existing passenger rail service?
Massive chunks of NB is speed limited to 50k max. Usually 40-45k/hr. Train bridges are crawled across at 10k/hr.

Currently going about 300 percent faster.

Sadly the wind was not strong enough to take out all the inflatable Santas in my neighbourhood.

Here are "improvement concepts" for new roundabouts at Regent and Wayne Squibb (in front of Costco) and at Two Nations and Saint Mary's. Bring them on.

Heard that the downtown Fredericton Dooly’s is moving into the former SNB building.

Not at all surprised to see New Brunswick score so highly in this report.
In the 1st annual HOMES (Housing Outcomes and Management Effectiveness Score) Report Card we grade provinces on 36 indicators over 5 criteria related to policy and outcomes.

Overall, New Brunswick and PEI get an A-, and Ontario gets a D.

Looking forward to this. We don't hear much about New Brunswick in the national housing discourse.
At 5 am EST tomorrow, we'll release our 1st annual HOMES report card, which grades provinces on 36 indicators across five categories: pro-supply policies, avoidance of harmful policies, supply outcomes, affordability outcomes, and societal outcomes.

Look for it at MMI!

It is truly archaic that as part of Fredericton's zoning code there is a prohibition against "drinking establishments" within 300m of a place of worship.

For purely selfish reasons I'd love to have a local pub in the small commercial building at the corner of University and Shore, but unfortunately the local commercial zone doesn't allow for licensed restaurants.

Getting close to being topped out.

I can't see how adding bridge capacity in the downtown is a good thing. It just induces even more traffic to drive through downtown, making it a worse place for the people who are actually living and working there.
A third - and maybe a fourth - bridge for city? tj.news/fredericton-...

Sounds like Namaste is opening a new location in Fredericton, taking over the old Que Padre space off of Bishop Drive.

Positive on the surface but it doesn't sound like this co-op is managed sustainably. Rents need to be set so that ongoing maintenance and repair costs are covered.
Money for upgrades at Moncton seniors building arrives just in time, manager says | CBC News
The Golden Terraces seniors housing co-op, with a waitlist of more than 300 people, might have had to close without the provincial funding announced Wednesday for upgrades, the manager says.
