Harm reductionist, global public health and SRHR advocate, (queer)feminist, lover of libraries, believer in kindness. We can do better than capitalism. Also, dogs.
I sneaked out for a short walk in between meetings today, to clear my head and to bask in the precious winter sun.

Sometimes all we need is a gulp of fresh air.

I am ashamed to admit I did not really notice #gulls before I picked up my camera. They have a bad reputation, but they are such tough, playful, and elegant creatures.

Their life is constant battle against the elements. Wind, water, cities encroaching on their habitat.

And yet, they soar.

First day back to work and already spent lunch going through emails instead of a little photo walk in the neighborhood. I love my work, but I also know that making time for a proper break on a busy day makes me more productive and motivated in the long run.

Tomorrow better. Photo from 2 weeks ago.

Russia hit an eco-park near Kharkiv with a glide bomb, injuring lions, killing most birds, and destroying winter enclosures, says founder Feldman. A volunteer was hurt; tigers’ status is unclear. Cleanup and animal rescue continue.

The swearing in ceremony of the new #NYC mayor was everything, but first and foremost an expression of deep love for this city and everyone who calls it home.

So inspired by the vision of solidarity, justice, diversity, and affordability as a key to freedom.

And yes, let’s tax the rich, finally.

I've seen a few people posting stuff along the lines of "2026 is the year I'm going to read more!"

My friend, don't pressure yourself. Even as an author, I say this: Read better, not more. Read what you love, stop reading something that isn't working for you. Don't aim for more, aim for pleasure.

Corporations want to shred an old-growth forest in #Walbran Valley to pieces for profit. I am in awe of the bravery of the few people who put up a blockade.

Old-growth forests are unique. You can’t just plant them. Can we amplify the efforts of the blockade?

Things I learned today:

#BirdPhotography is hard but absolutely exhilarating, even when the subject is a humble #gull.

• Bird photography is very intimate. This guy and I connected on a level that can’t be put into words.

10/10 the best way to get your pants dirty.

I was lucky to catch some golden hour on a dog walk this afternoon.

As the sun suddenly broke winter grayness, folks poured outside: kids on scooters, couples, older folks, dog people like myself.

All complete strangers, united by the joy of being outside by the lake.

This is ecocide. Consumption in the wealthy West drives nations like Indonesia to destroy the humanity’s collective lungs.

It is not even supporting development, as local farmers get displaced, profits go to corporations (and to kickbacks), and the loss to humanity and ecosystems is irreversible.

I was enchanted by those street lamps.

Taken on a quiet neighborhood dog walk today. This street is near the beach and is usually bustling with people. Which is probably why I never noticed those lanterns before.

Sometimes quiet is all we need to see.

This Sunburst Lichen is very aptly named: a tiny burst of color amidst December monochrome.

I just read that it’s resilient to human-induced air pollution, while many lichen species are sensitive to it. This is why it is common in urban areas and a good subject to study how species adapt.

Wishing everyone a peaceful holiday season.

I am planning to turn my phone off and instead spend some time reading, take my dog and my camera for a walk, and engage in other analog activities.

Hope you can find some joy offline as well.
