Happy birthday to Carey Bell! There aren't too many harmonica players who can do what he did flawlessly (NOT effortlessly! You can hear the payoff for hours of practice in his and the band's playing). #BluesSky

Most Tricycle stuff is pay walled, but this is a freebie with two writers I've enjoyed reading for some time.
On Thursday, November 13 at 12 p.m. ET, scholars Donald S. Lopez Jr. and Stephen Batchelor will come together to discuss two visions of the Buddha, laid out in each scholar’s new book. Where do these visions overlap and what do we actually know about the Buddha?

Learn more below!

Historically, the last day of a book sale is half-price, so I "fasted" yesterday after having been Thursday night and Friday. Seemed to pay off as I got this haul for just under twenty bucks. Some nice little finds tucked away in the shadows but for now - LOVE that cover for Mules and Men!

It will be interesting to see how CBP/ICE in Chicago do in actual ice conditions...
Appropriately strong wording from @NWSChicago AFD regarding the potential for multiple intense bands of lake effect snow tonight into Monday morning.

Extremely heavy snow with zero visibility, high winds, and lightning possible in the strongest bands.

Does anyone have a guide to publishers first edition points handy? I feel like Harcourt should have some statement on the copyright page for a 1935 first. More than happy to be wrong!

An early Haki Madhubuti book of poetry from when he was writing as Don L. Lee, from 1970! And signed?!?! A mainstay of Chicago's poetry scene (plus, plus so much more) for decades.

I found A Clutch of Fables under a pile of Joseph Campbell in the MYTH section last night, lol. Teo Savory published James Tate and Thich Nhat Hanh among others with her Unicorn Press. Finding a first of James Tate's Absences last night as well might indicate a shared previous owner? #BookSky

He just appears with a tight smile and quietly suggests that it would be best if you don’t cause a scene.
