I find it bizarre that we're forced to accept live-streamed genocide and are told that it's illegal to be opposed to it, but anyone who says the obvious about these guys is at best putting their account at risk and at worse potentially facing legal charges. and the obvious is: we need to kill them

We know this, it's not speculative, chatbots 100% are not conscious and lack the capacity to be conscious in the same way a Kia Sorento cannot be a lunar lander. You can learn how to make a chatbot. The engineers who built the thing have told them "there's no organ for thought, it's an illusion."

Chatbots are of course designed to appear conscious, but in the same way that Thanos in The Avengers is designed to appear physical despite being 100% CGI: it's an illusion for an audience.
