Hearing older folks try to legitimize the idea of video games to each other is one of the weirdest experiences.

“You're not alone in wanting a better world, one in which cars are relegated to their proper use. Cars are tools that can be useful at certain times and places. They’re not gods. They’re not the foundation of our society. They should serve us. We should not serve them. There can be life after cars.”

Two of the most common climate misconceptions I see, even among knowledgeable folks, are that (1) most people aren't worried about climate change, and (2) if they were, they'd act.
Not true! Data show (1) most people are worried, but (2) they won’t act if they don’t know what to do-and most don’t.

Have never listened to @thewaroncars.bsky.social podcast, but followed them on Bsky because of urbanist mutuals like @nerd4cities.bsky.social , @ohtheurbanity.bsky.social , etc.
After seeing 10,000,000 posts, I have finally broken down and preordered Life After Cars. Very much looking forward to it

This dovetails with another paper I co-authored — featured by the incredible @nerd4cities.bsky.social — covering how the amazing urbanism of Seattle's South Lake Union hides a built environment that serves surveillance.

This is what corporations want. Just like they killed trolleys and put us in cars. Capitalism is predatory by nature and we are its slaves.

The implicit argument here, that pedestrians and cyclists are at fault for their own deaths, is REALLY problematic. So many people are killed in crosswalks and sidewalks, if they even exist! I'm sorry, but wearing a helmet will not save you if a 6,000 lb. SUV blows a red light!
