Interesting how 80% of the press corps are stenographers for law enforcement when the subjects are poor and working people but when it comes to the powerful, all of a sudden everything is alleged and also "hard to prove."

There is currently an NWS flash flood warning in effect for all five boroughs of NYC.

But no City agency has posted it on this platform.

Please help spread the word.

Hey, remember when the Panama Papers were released and they showed how basically every wealthy person on the planet was avoiding taxes by offshoring their money and nothing was done about it except the reporter who broke the story was murdered with a car bomb?

The online experience is a separate and unique experience from the real world experience.

The former fosters feelings of isolation and depression. The latter fosters feelings of love and community.

Choose your experience wisely.
If you're over 30, quote this with some life advance.

Trite perhaps but one often forgotten online at least: use the principle of charity. (At least among comrades.) Take the most charitable interpretation of a comment as your initial point of interaction; do not take the least charitable.

Let people help you. We are not here to make it alone, no one can do that. You are not a burden.

Texas had local elections across the entire state this weekend.

How do you think it went? Let me just say.. the far right didn’t come out ahead. Even in red Collin and Tarrant counties.

If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

This isn't something that can just end with a vote and a change at the top.

This can only end with wholesale political system change, plus life in prison, plus confiscation of assets for the perpetrators.

Because the other option is the end of life for dictators. Hung from streetlight.

Amazing writer, incredible journalist.
"Whether this particular allegation is true is irrelevant compared to the broader question of why nothing was done to prevent a known organized crime associate from gaining access to the highest level of political power. Twice."

I wish people on the left would stop using “diversity hire” or “affirmative action” to describe folks like Hegseth. This reinforces the racist, sexist notion that diversity and affirmative action are promoting unqualified people, doing the right’s work for the.

If you can watch everything that’s happened in the last month and still think we’re going to continue to have presidential elections in the future, I don’t know what to tell you.

Democracy in the United States is being slaughtered right in front of the whole world.

“…it is someone acting extra to the law, extra to the legal framework, it is a form of state capture and the really disturbing thing, that in much of the US media and in much of the British media is barely causing a raised eyebrow. We’re treating it as if it’s normal.”

#hypernormalisation
On LBC this morning, I spoke about why we should be far more worried the power Elon Musk is accruing, especially in light of his Open AI moves.

The normalisation of his actions and activity by quite a bit of the US and even UK media is a big part of the problem. www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGnt...

Sheldon Wolin’s theory of #invertedtotalitarianism has come to fruition.

Check out Democracy, Inc. if you haven’t. I read it around the time of the Iraq war and I must say he was spot on.

Political apathy is what differentiates the United States from Nazi Germany.

Don’t use self checkout. Make them pay people to provide a service - they’re up charging us and making us do the jobs they don’t want to pay people to do.

And we don’t even get a discount.

Last Trump term, I followed the news fanatically and tweeted every horror. It made it difficult for me to both act and be present.

Gentle suggestion: stay informed, but don’t fall into the panic spiral. Pick a cause or two and support it regularly.

Stay the course. Don’t let them distract you.

One thing before tomorrow:

Use your local libraries.

Get your card.

Borrow books, manga, films, audios, ebooks.

Recommend titles for purchase (usually online).

Attend promoted activities.

Fill out those "How are we doing?" questionnaires.

Tell your kids that libraries are good.

They are.

Sitting down to compose a hopeful message for 2025 is a tough ask given the year we’ve just had. Even glib sentiments are hard to come by. The defeat of pro-democracy forces in the US presidential election still weighs like a heavy anchor on my attempts to move on. 1/11
