Ok, looking at the weather forecast I think I can finally say that bicycling year 2025 ended 10 minutes ago. At the end of 2024 my total on my current bike was 14489 km and today it is 18836.
So my grand total for 2025 is 4347 kilometers. No round numbers anywhere; my monkey brain does not like! 😀

Early 2026 looks nice music-wise at least. Live concerts I want to attend include three fave pieces of mine: Shosty's 9th symphony, Bartók's 1st piano concerto and Janáček's Sinfonietta with its epic 14 trumpets. Oh my god 14 trumpets live is gonna sound wild!

Tän vuodenvaihteen kuohuva on <drum roll> taas Meinklangin Pet Nat. Yllättyneitä ovat ketkä? Tää on nyt noin kolmen vuoden ajan ollut oikeastaan ainoa kuohuviini, mistä oon tykännyt. 16€ eli ei lainkaan paha, kun muuten mun maku on niin kallista Champagnea, että yks pullo on mun vuokran verran. :D

OMG AMBLPYGI!!!! Oops there's me shouting again because these are the coolest critters EVER. I used to have a Damon diadema for like almost 10 years (didn't know they lived so long); then I had a Catageus for three days before it died (so angry the shop sold a dying one grrrr!).

If I want to end the year on a high note, can I do better than the great Frieda Hempel in Queen of the Night's aria? It's like the aria isn't difficult enough as it was written so she incorporates a couple extra-high notes here and there. I should time 1:01 on this video to play at midnight. :D

If I want to end the year on a high note, can I do better than the great Frieda Hempel in Queen of the Night's aria? It's like the aria isn't difficult enough as it was written so she incorporates a couple extra-high notes here and there. I should time 1:01 on this video to play at midnight. :D

I wonder what would be a realistic new year's resolution? I intend to be a complete mental wreck and at least as messy a bitch as I was this year! :D And now we just hope that everyone always has to break these promises because then 2026 might actually turn out ok. :D

I just counted aaaaand 10. Can I even call myself an antiquarian bookshop keeper any more? :D I was able to bicycle to work until mid-December so had a record low amount of taking public transport (where I'd have time to read). Also, major depressive episode so I just have no concentration left.

I just counted aaaaand 10. Can I even call myself an antiquarian bookshop keeper any more? :D I was able to bicycle to work until mid-December so had a record low amount of taking public transport (where I'd have time to read). Also, major depressive episode so I just have no concentration left.

I was winding my way through the narrow streets of Stone Town, Zanzibar when I literally bumped into (tight spaces there) former US president Bill Clinton. He then shook my hand (badly, it felt like a cold, dead fish) and asked me where the best coffee is in Stone Town. I sent him to Msumbi's.

And CD 15 is piano music from Dora Pejačević. I've heard and liked her long form stuff (symphony, piano concerto) before but most of this disc was new to me. And it was all attractive music and she really had a gift for melody and atmosphere. The flower pieces were so evocative. Lovely disc.
Oops. I've neglected this box. Oh well, next up CD 14 of Pauline Viardot's songs. Tbh, this disc didn't make a huge impression on me. Chopin's Mazurkas are perhaps better on the piano alone and the other songs where fine. Maybe a better singer would do them justice? I didn't like the singer's tone.

I visited my bestie several times this summer on my bike. Depending on the route, 60-70km altogether. Lots of lovely scenery from the southern coast of Finland. Only a tiny sliver of a pic of my bike though. This is such a picturesque route though, can't wait for summer.

I visited my bestie several times this summer on my bike. Depending on the route, 60-70km altogether. Lots of lovely scenery from the southern coast of Finland. Only a tiny sliver of a pic of my bike though. This is such a picturesque route though, can't wait for summer.
