I am updating this article with new buildings, councils, Gov depts, employers etc with e-bike bans. Just confirmed: all North Tyneside Council buildings.

All of our mayoral candidates agreed unequivocally that all possible schools should have school streets by 2030, in the words of our new mayor, Karen Clark “something the public can get behind”.
We currently have 6. We have 56 first/primary schools & 4 middle schools. That’s a lot of work to do.

So the first real policy decision on active travel or road safety by this government is a law targeting cyclists which will do nothing for road safety, briefed to a newspaper which openly hates cycling. Whatever your hopes for active travel from current ministers, perhaps calibrate these downwards.

Due to construction of the new Seafront Cycleway, we're postponing our next Kidical Mass ride until the summer to celebrate the launch of the route. Fundamentally the issue is clear: if I leave my home and choose the most polluting and antisocial form of transport my local authority makes this easy; if I try to be responsible, pro-social and healthy, my local authority makes this hard

I wonder how the 28 people who were vocally opposed to this scheme, on the basis they quite like where they can currently park their cars, might feel knowing that a child has been knocked off his bike where there could’ve been a safer alternative?
A young person was knocked off his bike by a hit-and-run driver this morning outside John Spence School - exactly where the abandoned Preston Rd cycle path should have delivered him safely.
Who will be held responsible and who will respond, before this happens again?

Meanwhile, Preston Road is being resurfaced - we know (unlike FB commenters) that these are different budgets, but pretty galling drivers get a smoother ride while those who cycle get nothing (except fewer potholes to dodge whilst also dodging drivers)
