An independent organisation focused on campaigning for safer, better streets in North Tyneside, for streets full of life

Our question to mayoral candidates was also about “prioritising the provision of a high quality, safe and connected walking, wheeling and cycling network around each school” and all of them committed to this too.

@ntcouncilteam.bsky.social needs to have the same ambition as other urban authorities, to ensure the borough’s children are safe to walk & cycle to school, enabled to make those choices confidently - choices that are better for the health (very broadly defined) of our children & their communities.

We did also ask a question about women and girls’ safety and he was clear on that (streetlifentyneside.org.uk/2025/04/13/p...)

Some of us have challenged Bones on waggonways in the past. He will not take our various concerns on board.

The greatest variance is around a good, safe cycle network, with the Conservative candidate focusing on (unsafe, indirect, limited) waggonways and both the Tory and Reform candidates seeming to suggest that “residents” should be able to veto cycle paths.

Please do read these, think about your votes next week, and follow up with the issues that concern you after the election.

We asked public transport accountability, franchising & municipal ownership, women & girls’ safety, safe routes to school, the local cycling network, pavement parking, and joined-up active travel and public transport.

(Realised, after looking at the survey/map, that’s it’s going to be located by the haven, not on the new cycleway; still NCN1 though)

We have 7 candidates standing (my.northtyneside.gov.uk/page/34585/s...) and we’ve emailed all but the Reform candidate as we can’t find an email address for him - if you can help, please let us know.
