On the other hand - why are Americans so touchy on the IDs topic? In Europe you don't even exit your house without an ID card and voting w/o one is absolutely impossible. And no one is complaining.

I thought Russian language would be a near-dead investment in Eastern Europe, but my own country statistics show its being picked up quite often in higher education levels - much more often than FR, DE, ES, even if the kids would probably work somewhere in the EU when they grow up, not in Russia.
You'd be surprised.
Recently the topic emerged in Bulgaria where Dussian was obligaroty pre-1990 and supposedly it shifted yo EN, DE, ES, FR and other languages.
But thisnyear statistic show Russian is taught in high schools to 2 TIMES more pupils than all but English!

I really wonder, these eastern European countries suffered so hard under Russian influence / occupation, and the only countries who actually remember it are the Baltic's, Poland and Finnland. The other countries somehow have dementia, at least what their voters elect looks like it.

If you ever come to Bulgaria, forget about kebapche and shopska salad. Sure they are okay, but what you should really try is stuffed peppers and tarator.
Stuffed peppers are filled with slightly fried minced pork (also beef works) and rice, then baked. Green and red peppers give different taste.
