Felix Hernandez will be the barometer for reframing Hall of Fame pitchers. He was an Ace for an extended amount of time in the modern era and has *close enough* counting stats to make it work. If not him, I worry a large swath of worthy guys will miss it
ICYMI

After Kershaw/Verlander/Scherzer, will there ever be another Hall of Fame starting pitcher?

Sure, you say.

Oh, really? How exactly will we figure out what one looks like?

I dug in on that question, with help from some HOF starters.

Things that sink a fringe team: absolutely atrocious defense.

I don't see many (if any) impact defenders on this roster, and one Konnor Griffin can't save them all. If you're going to focus on run prevention in a team build, you should probably care about defense

Which second baseman led the position in Process+ last year?

One of my favorite targets for fantasy in a really shallow position

skubal’s arb case did numbers already

Episode 1 of the Approach Angle is up! @blandalytics.pitcherlist.com and I will be talking all things baseball analytics (and hopefully, teach you a thing or two).

While the intro is still in spring training form, give it a listen!

Me on the death of the Washington Post sports section.

This isn't a day to be nostalgic. It's a day to be angry.

Death of a Sports Section

So many great writers don’t deserve this and it’s just another moment in how enshittified everything useful has become. With sports specifically, it’s unfathomable that the local paper in a major city won’t cover a full slate of teams.

Support independent writers

the other two make this something really nice. I’m happy
Cijintje and Peete is about as expected return, but that absolutely works. I don’t think a haul was going to be in the cards (especially with the Giants dropping out), but it’s an exciting RHP and a reclamation project for a guy with pedigree.

Need these types to build out a strong pipeline.

Brendan Donovan is an incredibly frustrating player to pitch to -- he makes great contact with good decisions and can tap into power when healthy.

Not sure if his power potential will play as well in Seattle, so if he pivots more toward contact, I could see a .300 average

This is fun!! Really hope it’s Montes or something.

And this opens up the Wetherholt role much more clearly now
The Seattle Mariners are nearing a deal to acquire IF/OF Brendan Donovan from the St. Louis Cardinals as part of a three-way trade that also includes Tampa Bay, sources tell Jeff Passan

I'm not doubting Julio this year, but fascinated to see that the pitch quality he faced fell off a cliff late last season. He was able to take advantage of it in a major way, though he might be closed to a true talent 125sh Process+/wRC+ kinda guy

There were 19 LHP starters last year with at least 65% a FF/SI & CH combo, including 20%+ CH usage (a SWATCH). They averaged:

3.63 ERA
3.92 FIP
22.9% K%
7.8% BB%
97 Stuff+
92.8 avg FB velo

Shane McClanahan fits into this group, and here's how his composite projection fits in:

Good morning! I’m going to try to post more of my baseball content (both general and Cardinals stuff) here as I continually get sick of the other app.

Big 2026 kicking off this weekend with PitchCon, and many more new things on the docket 👀

One of my favorite graphics & I had to make sure article wasn’t half bad either.

Stop pitching to Aaron Judge!!

I also want to mention @benclemens.bsky.social’s piece on the same topic from today too (blogs.fangraphs.com/when-should-...). Covers the IBBs much better than I do.

Happy Opening Day!

I'm going to try and continue posting here in-season, but I still end up on the other app more often than not.

Here's a thread on what I've been working on the last few weeks before the season starts🧵

This is awesome, thank you Kyle for everything behind Process+ as I was simply the man to put pen to paper (or hand to keyboard, I’m not sure).

Humbled to be recognized like this in the industry and honestly I can’t believe it
Shoutout to @nschwartz.bsky.social for winning FSWA Research Article of the Year! He had a killer write up on our Process+ metrics!
