I can't get over how good this is—theologians have been saying as much since the 19th century and this way of thinking exploded in the 20th century but for too long the official line has remained a conception of doctrine as arbitrarily posited by authority

It also helps us to make prudential judgements when confronted with challenges. Seriousness, rigour and serenity are what we must learn from every doctrine, including the Church’s social doctrine.
