"Find friends by phone" is a common tool in social networks. We're proposing a secure scheme and requesting comments from the dev community.

Goals:
・Double opt-in: you're not findable by your phone unless YOU use the tool
・Secure to enumeration attacks
・Resistant to decryption if compromised

So tired of people using the term "theft" in the context of copyright law.

Copyright infringement is not ethically or legally equivalent to theft in any way. Even if you are staunchly opposed to it, you should be able to see the difference.

📣THREAD: It’s surprising to me that so many people were surprised to learn that Signal runs partly on AWS (something we can do because we use encryption to make sure no one but you–not AWS, not Signal, not anyone–can access your comms).

It’s also concerning. 1/
PSA: we're aware that Signal is down for some people. This appears to be related to a major AWS outage. Stand by.

we reeeeeeeally need to figure out a way to educate people and diffuse misinformation like this. It’s going to get people in serious trouble.

this entire network is public. you can literally save every single posts. Blocking does not work because there is no accessing account to block.

i love running ssh tarpits just to see what people would be doing if they had real access, like forcing my host to reboot in about 150 ways (why though?)

We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...

Indianapolis residents have shut down a proposed Google data center.

The tech giant wanted to build a massive 500 acre facility, but people got organized and stopped them.

The $1 billion data center would've used one million gallons of water a day.

reminder that telegram, outside of 1-on-1 secret chats that nobody uses, has the same level of encryption as discord

every single group chat, including private ones, and basically every single DM chat you have on telegram, all of them, are as vulnerable to this as any other non-e2ee messenger
Welp

That’s the “Feds are monitoring all Discord activity” canary dead in a cage.

On par with the DoD IP address ranges accessing image URLs the day of Skype‘s switchover to MS infrastructure
