Pressuring Discord stalls it but it isn't enough. ID/AV laws are coming in almost every country, mainly the US and EU.

If you want it to stop before the internet is dead forever, you need to put pressure on the politics.
Keep pressuring them, cancel nitro, send feedback. It worked for adobe so keep at it with discord.
Discord is already starting to walk things back a little, so people should keep doing what they're doing (cancel Nitro, leave feedback/criticism, direct contact through support tickets/phone/email/etc)

Giving that data + your usage data means easily identifying things like protestors, LGBTQ kids, etc. ripe for the governament to use the data for evil like always.

Also. More targeted ads and an immensely horrible digital fingerprint. Your ID!? We can't trust these companies with such a thing.

Time to scrub to PG if not outright delete discord.

We can fight this, but it can not be done platform level or whack-a-mole platform hopping. We need political pressure to overturn and stop bad internet laws and put an end to mass surveillance stop face scans and digital ID nonsense. Privacy first

It's important to understand this isn't necessarily Discord's decision. It's a political decision from the UK (Online Safety Act), the EU (Digital Services Act Article 28) and many U.S states. The only way this stops is to make it clear to our governments that we do not want invasive face/ID checks.

In the wake of a massive confirmation that the tech industry’s run by deranged pedophiles, not a single tech platform should have the balls to start demanding ID and enacting invasive policies.

Yet they continue. They’re the ones being outed as dangerous and we’re the ones being regulated.

People need to understand that the discord TOS change has to do with politicians, not discord… Jesus Christ, get active and vote AGAINST such laws instead of whining or scrambling for alternatives because those alternatives will have to do the same once these laws hit them too.

I might delete this because I am terrified. I feel like I got no choice because of all these laws.

The GDPR won't be saving us any since EU lawmakers are pushing for this on both the national and EU level.

If we want change, best option is to demand it from those who write laws in the first place.

But do let it be known I'll never provide my ID to log in to a website. AND before YOU think "well it doesn't matter if I do" please know that digital security relies on ALL of your contacts performing it. If YOU give up your ID, then it makes it that much easier for the gov to track your friends 2

Something is rotten in the state of the EU.

“Competitiveness” and “simplification” are the new buzzwords — but what they really mean is deregulation driven by corporate lobbyists, not public interest.

We break down 5 terms you need to understand the EU’s current deregulation push 👇

Big Tech spent €151 million lobbying the EU last year.

That’s 890 lobbyists — more than elected MEPs.

Now key digital rights like GDPR and the AI Act are being quietly rolled back.

We looked at who’s really influencing EU tech rules — and what’s happening behind closed doors. 👇

To my fellow EU citizens:
to ask your ID, Discord must first comply with the GDPR.

So they need to send you a privacy policy, stating (among other things):
-the reason of the request
-who they are and what they do with your personal data
-asking only the data needed
-make sure the data is secured

This bs answer is still not good enough. Not even close. There's nothing "exciting" about this bs, about how it can make it harder for communities to grow and form. For example, that separate inbox? I once got a DM there, didn't see it in 3 months because it's fucking hidden. Keep the pressure on.

I wrote to Wes Streeting last week demanding answers.

Every day without any transparency deepens the scandal.

Palantir out.
Mandelson’s malign influence runs right through the heart of this Government.

Not least in the govt’s NHS data deal with Palantir – a spy-tech firm co-founded by a man who thinks the NHS should be ‘ripped up.’

I've written to Wes Streeting urging him to ditch this dangerous deal.
