As I wait for the oncoming winter storm to hit Atlanta, here's a haunting swing tune by Ken Snakehips Johnson. Snakehips was a Black swing band leader in 1930s London who died on stage at the Cafe de Paris during the Blitz and his ghost is said to haunt the building.

Excited to share this event honoring the first Virginia folk performer to get an Encyclopedia Virginia entry, Texas Gladden. We will share lots of music from the archive & have ballad singer Elizabeth LaPrelle speak to her influence in her work.

the horror of this is compounded by the fact that the whipple building sits on the same military fort where 1600+ Dakota, mostly women and children were held in a concentration camp in 1863, where over 300 died

Satellite imagery shows Israeli forces building a military site over Al-Hajj Mohammed Cemetery in Ma’an, east of Khan Younis — after bulldozing the graves.

Even the dead are not spared.

"Treasure hunter"? They really think we're stupid. A former curator took nearly 2k artefacts 2.5 years ago and they're looking for a "treasure hunter" now?

My in-laws gave me a book voucher for Christmas and I'm very happy with the resulting haul. Mostly non-fiction but I couldn't resist the title and premise of Shy Trans Banshee!

While it's true that the EU has had ample time to prepare for the US' belligerence, I don't really understand this willful blindness with regard to Europe: Europe helped to destroy intl law in Palestine, and literally yesterday France & the UK bombed Syria.
The problem isn't that Europeans don't understand that Trump's foreign policy is fundamentally kleptocratic, or neo-patrimonial, or neo-Royal, or whatever one wants to call it.

The problem is that they don't have a lot of good options for how to respond.
1/Leaders are abducted/allies are threatened but pundits and governments are scratching their heads on what the US is doing. Danish PM on Greenland "It makes absolutely no sense". Why? Because actors using old IR models when we need a new lens. Enter neo-royalism.

The discourse around the Bayeux tapestry's "return" echoes repatriation discourses, in a way that reminds me of how pro-Brexit ideologues co-opted the language of (anti-British) independence movements.
